Well done Superfastkimi; you've managed the fantastic feat of permanently losing credibility and respect in even less time than it took you to sign up. Cock.

*Edit; Actually, make that two fantastic feats; The slamming you've provoked is the most united response I've seen here in six years. Splendid

Knocking Schumacher in a lame attempt to support Hamilton was not the best plan ever hatched. Perhaps Ham's fans could wait until the hamster accomplishes something in F1 before crowing about his prowess. When Ham has 3 WDC's (as if) then he can be mentioned in the same breath as Schumacher until then Hamilton's fans should just STFU.

This thread is a testament to how much of an impact Schumacher had - on the eve of the 2nd season after him - there is a thread started about him... :smoking:

In Schumacher's case we have a complete career that is in the history books, and those books tell stories of a number of incidents at high pressure moments, but it also tells of a driver who won 7 WDC's and you don't do that by 'choking' regularly.

7 WDC's doesnt tell it all, Keke for instance won his championship with just 1 race win that year. You didnt mention that he also has won more than 10% of all the races in the entire history of Grand Prix racing, quite a stunning figure for a choker.

As a Michael fan I have to admit he was vulnerable to extreme pressure - even he admits in his biography to have been vomiting all week before the 2003 Suzuka race. So yes, I think he was responding to the pressure more than how people saw him. But that in my eyes makes it only more admirable that he won so much because that means most of the time he managed that pretty well! And you shouldn't forget that the pressure was immense on him for most of his career!

People should also see that not all mistakes that drivers make is "cracking under pressure". Eg. Hungary and Turkey 2006 were mentioned in the opening thread - I don't beleive those were cases of cracking under pressure. They were simply Michael stretching the limits because he had to: because he desperately had to make up points in the WDC (in Hungary) or make up a position (in Turkey) lost to Alonso because of a bad luck with the safety car. Actually in 2006 it was Alonso who made more (small) errors towards the end of the season when the title fight became close (he too was off the track in Turkey in the same place as MS - on lap 2, then he was off the track in China (possibly that damaged his tyres and that's why he had to change them in the pits) and also in Suzuka - people don't remember those offs, because he was lucky to escape in both situations. But Michael was driving faultlessly in those closing races).

That Michael cracked under pressure in championship deciding races is arguable. I think in 1994, yes, he did. But again I don't blame him after all what happened that season (the bans and DQs etc.). In 1997, I'm not sure if it was the pressure. He just didn't expect JV to be that close at that point. And in 1998 there was something wrong with his clutch. In 2003 it was partly the pressure, yes, (partly bad luck with the weather in qualy), but he still won it.

Note: I have never been one who called Hamilton a "choker". I think what he did in 2007 was very impressive even with the mistakes he made at the end. I think why people like to make fun of that "choking" is that previously he made some almost arrogant comments on how he is cooler than Räikkönen.

Hamilton never said he was "cooler than Kimi", it was a press misquote/invention, like the one with Prost yesterday about TC.

Michael was a bit of an enigma, like they all are, I could never reconcile his dodgy moments with the rest of his character. On the one hand he is a warm person absolutely loved by his team, totally loyal, kind to animals (I thought it was great that he rescued and adopted the stray dog in Brazil), on the other he put FA onto the grass on Hanger Straight.

But one key thing MS and LH have in common is that, standing on the top step of the podium, they really deeply feel that is where they belong. Fisi, as an example of driving talent with a more normal psyche, is more relaxed using his skill getting a bad car round more quickly than it should, in the midfield.
