I avoided the Super Aguri drivers on purpose, their situation is too unclear, just explain what will happen

Sutil perhaps.

I've a wee feeling that Jarno Trulli may call it quits halfway through if things are not going well.

Might indeed happen. I almost feel for Sutil, he's in the worst position possible: if he equals or beats Fisi it won't mean much as Fisi is "old and close to retirement". And if he get's beaten that could seriously dent his career opportunities forever.
Not many people will take into account that Fisi is at his very best in environments like this year, with low expectations and a relatively crap car.

I really hope he's only trying to sand-bag.

Piquet Jr. will never cut it in F1. He'll be out of the car come Canada.

All the rookies these season have a good history in low formulas and the old guys are in "stable" environments.
Even RB or DC are safe. Rubens will be better than last year and I can't see Webber trashing Coulthard.
Piquet and Bourdais are very good drivers and I don't think Nakajima is so bad like Ide.
But 2 or 3 bad races can change it very fast.....

There are a lot of decent third drivers knocking around these days. Although I doubt there are any Kubicas or Nakajimas waiting in the wings for one of the established guys to slip up. So IMO any replacements will be the result of either the driver himself calling it a day, or some kind of emergency, like an unexpected bitch fight with the team principal.

Coulthard might lose his place in Red Bull though, if Vettel would perform at Toro Rosso at the same level as last year.
But Piquet so far is...

My pick is Davidson, replaced by someone with a bag of money, SA need the money, and Sato provides the engines.
Sutil is 2nd favorite, as he won't match Fisi, but the new team boss is loaded, so they won't need the cash, but I expect him to be at the end of the year.
Piquet won't be replaced, his job is to not challenge Alonso and he's doing that fine, if they wanted someone quick, they'd have kept Heiki.

I sometimes wonder if people like you on this board, actually know anything about this sport, or why you watch it at all? Hamilton screwed up last year eh? Finished 2nd in the WDC at his first attempt, and won 4 races. And that's him screwing up? God help the rest of them when he gets it right is all i can say!
As to 'lying and backstabbing and subsequent choking', where did he lie? Who did he backstab? And, did he choke?? No, he made a couple of errors during his first year, and paid the price by only finsihing 2nd....bet RD was glad that LH is so rubbish, according to you, after all, he might have employed some other guy and had his nice car finish 10th or 11th or 15th say? For heaven's sake, if you claim to be a racing fan, learn about the sport and don't talk utter drivel!

Oh come on! Have you not watched F3 or GP2? Why do you think the Regie had him as Tester? Are you another one who never watches any other form of motorsport except F1 on the TV?

So, first race of the year, and Piquet Jr is up for replacement? Where are all you lot from, another Planet? I've heard that people these days have a 30 sec attention span, but frankly this is absurd! The kid is as fast as Hamilton when things are going well for him, don't expect him not to have a seat all year at the Regie.

The thread is about "predictions". So far he hasn't impressed me, not just today, but not in testing either. Granted Alonso is a great driver but little Piquet was often 1-2 seconds off his pace. That's too much.
Yes, he might turn it around like Heikki did in 2007, but at the moment I feel he is the closest to flop.

The guy is an F3 and GP2 Champ, i rest my case! If one is making predictions like that, then on the basis that Fisi was 10th quickest in 1st practice, one would assume a few podiums and maybe a win or two for ForceIndia in 08? Piquet will not only be fine, but will, imho, one day in the next 5 years or so, be a WDC.

When did Piqet win the GP2 championship? The GP2 I was watching saw him take 8th and 2nd in his 2 years.

Yeah, it's still a bit early to say Piquet is going to fail, he could've been just taking it easy with lots of fuel and learning the track yesterday - but if things keep going like this, Grosjean will get his F1 debut much sooner than he expected...
edit: actually looking at the FP2 times again the difference between Piquet and Alonso's top laps was only 7 tenths... I was under the impression it had been much bigger for some reason.
