autosport has an article about Stoddart considering a return to F1 (inluding a bid he considered for Super Aguri), despite him finding everything still wrong with the sport.

Now, F1 is far from perfect (the fact that one old greedy bastard owns the damn thing is wrong in itself.....it should be, like any sport of substance, independent, like FIFA for football, ATP for tennis, etc.), but I must confess, I rather have F1's imprefections than stoddart around again. In the many years I followed F1, I can't recall a more annyoing, whiny team owner/manager ever. Can he pretty please stay over to the US and annoy the living crap out of IRL fans for another few years rather than making a come back???

Am I the only one that finds his approach to otherwise sensible matters totally annyoing???

Is he the guy that said the 2005 regulations were written by 18 people from Ferrari? It was in old issue of F1 Racing.

Yep, spent weeks complaining that he couldn't assemble 2005 compliant cars but, after exhausting all avenues by the end of Friday on the race weekend in Melbourne, managed to do exactly that -- overnight in the pit garage. Probably cost him more in legal fees challenging his need to comply than it cost to actually make the cars compliant.

Welcome back Stoddy! Worth 1,000 John Howetts any day.

I wonder if Bernie wants him back?

i don't want him back.......I could never stand the bloke......I always felt he was the little guy who went to play ball with the older boys and then started crying because they never passed him the ball......... It's F1, for Pete's sake. Can you see VJ crying because Force India is at the back? no, he works on spending his resources intelligently. If one doesn't have the deep pockets or the ability to attract mega sponsors like McLaren, Williams or Ferrari, maybe they should consider IRL or GP2 instead, rather than annoy everyone with his conspiracy theories....yes, Paul, Ferrari is out there trying to screw you.......Jean Todt didn't sleep at night just to get you.....no, he wasn't worried about Dennis or Briatore, it was you, Paul Almighty he was scared off...... :rotfl:

Paul effin Stoddart, the whiner, beggar and the guy who managed to retire the Minardi name

Thank God that we have Mr Mosley keeping that p.o.s. away from F1 for now.

I'd rather Stoddart than those mystery men from Midland. Wtf were they and what were they doing in Formula 1?????
For all his faults and whinging, he wants to race, that's good enough for me.

Bring back Paul I say. He may have stirred up some things while he was in F1 but that was because he told the truth.. which in these days of people like Hamilton talking BS is refreshing. Bring back Paul!

yes and we should all just accept what we're told to do and never speak up.

personally i think he made it all a bit more exciting to watch and did his best to chage the sport for what he thought was better... note i didn't say better, just what he thought was better.

Yes, what we need is someone who is known for his soundbites instead of his contribution to F1. If you want oneliners, you might as well hire me.

Whether you like him or not, he has made a bigger contribution to F1 than you would ever be willing to do. At least he was willing to stump up his own money and have a go. I'd rather have someone like him anyday rather than a whiney forumer.

Well he nearly cost Australia its GP in 2005, maybe bringing him back could be Bernie's secret weapon to drive a final nail in to Melbourne's coffin.

Actually you do fit that mould quite well, oneliners rather than contribution.

He probably would have accomplished more than David Richards and Prodrive, if he had been given the chance (if he wanted it) for the final place on the grid.

I wouldn't worry about that: it looks like Sydney's stealing it anyway.

Anything to break up the corporate and political boredom that enshrouds what used to be called a sport. Personally I like Stoddard; and if people stopped to listen to what he really had to say, they would find that he was extremely canny and knowledgeable, even if he was in the end no match for Il Principe.

I'd quite like to see Stoddart back in F1 in some capacity - as a team owner or perhaps even a future FIA president!*

It's refreshing to see someone in F1 who isn't a PR-trained corporate 'yes' man. We need a someone with backbone to stand up to the Max & Bernie.

(* He'd certainly be a better President than Max. At least Stoddart tried to find a solution so that the fans could watch a race at 2005 US Grand Prix rather than being bloody minded and on insisting on a 6-car shambles)

While I don't think teams need to spend the money they did in those days, Paul Stoddart also needed to learn that you can't make a back-row team into a winner without serious investment.

Personally I want to see more racing on the track, not more politics.

IMO Stoddart made a lot of noises because he wasn't able to shell out enough money to bring Minardi forward. I do like people like Stoddart who say how they see it, with the huge exception, I prefer it when they know when to shut up and spend efforts which bring the team forward on their own merit.

Do you believe for a second that Ron Dennis would have brought McLaren to were they are today (as a company) with talking like Stoddart did? I'm not a fan of Ron Dennis either, but I clearly see (and can appreciate) why McLaren has become a top team, and Stoddart finally sold up Minardi.

And if that is not enough, see at Stoddarts recent pullout of his team (at least for this year) from the IRL Champ Car merger. Think about it. There he even has the chance to shape the future of the reunited series, and what does he do, he pulls out because his team (understandably) can't be competitive this year. But how do you think his team will fare, after some time off? Better than it would be this year? Don't think so. And if he isn't prepared to help shape the future of North American Open Wheel Car Racing, what were his past suggestions in F1 all about?

Paul Stoddart needs to stay the hell away from F1. The guy has only just left Keith Wiggins and all of their employees in the lurch over in the States because he doesn't want to run at the back in the IRL. What the hell does that say about the man's commitment when the going gets even slightly tough?

Yeah. Imagine that. Talking about Paul Stoddart in a thread about Paul Stoddart. What I should have been doing is talking about Derek Walker and Gerry Forsythe who have absolutely nothing to do with this story whatsoever.

It's nowhere near as simple as that. The person you should be condemning is Kevin Kalkhoven who condemned a lot of people to joblessness because he threw a hissy fit over something really silly.
Stoddart signed up for champ car not for the IRL, if he wanted to be there he would have signed up for there.

The Champ Car he signed up for hasn't disappeared. It's merged and everyone else involved in it is trying their hardest to make this work for the sole reason that they love their sport. Some have failed, but only one man is bailing out by choice in spite of having the money to keep his team going.

It's just so very typical of him. He doesn't get his way so he makes a big noise and leaves everyone else to clean up after him.

Ah yes, that famous "3rd in the championship in CCWS" tooling around. He's never entered a single IRL race. Ever.
