Yes, also you don't need to do alot of testing in order to get a race seat in the game. If your trial time is good then teams will offer you a seat right off the bet. So that part of the IGN review is a bit misleading...

Bit of shameless showing off; interview with Anthony Davidson at a F1CE press event...

Anthony Davidson interview

...he liked it and is apparently very quick, even beat our designer - maybe you'll catch him on-line one day ;)

Couple of extra event write-ups...

Davidson, a self-confessed gamer, was positive about the game, commenting that "the advancements made to PlayStation 3 have blown me away! The level of detail and advanced graphics are obvious improvements, but the way the cars handle compared to the track-going equivalent have exceeded all my expectations. I do use PlayStation games to get familiar with the circuits, so the advances made on the PS3 make it even more useful."

how's everyone doing with the game?
I played over the weekend, basically practicing at one circuit only - Melbourne - my best time so far is about 1:30, which is about 3 sec slower than the top car.

I found the handling of the car is pretty realistic, the only thing I don't like is it's hard to see the rearview mirror. I used the camera angle that's similar to the onboard camera, which means the rearview mirror sits very low and is blocked by some on screen display items. It's hard to see who's behind or trying to pass me.

what do you think? which circuit did you drive on?

I'm playing it and having fun ; not sure what OPM or Edge were smoking - it ain't perfect but it's perfectly reasonable.

The only gripe I have - and maybe there's a way around this - why the hell is Time Trial always done at dawn / dusk??? I can't see a ruddy thing! Is there a way of altering the time of day. Shame on you Matt for putting a frickin mode in there just so the artists could show off.

how's everyone doing with this game?

just finished playing it, haven't played this past week, as I found that my left thumb hurts with all the hard button-pressing the previous week. My best time @ Melbourne driving the McLaren is now 1:27.8, which allowed me to qualify 12th on the "hard level" format - I was about 1 sec slower than my teammate JPM. During the race I was able to stay with the couple cars ahead, but I wasn't consistent enough, still need to improve my driving, more precise entry into the corner, earlier acceleration etc. Man, that quick left/right corner is tough, it's hard to get it right lap after lap.

the 1:27.8 is a great improvement from my last attempt ( :smoking: see above), I hope I can go even deeper next time, the only thing is I don't think i can play this game too frequently, as I have to give my thumb enough rest between plays (45min - 1 hour play each time, anyone else has the same problem???) ):

hey, considering that I wasn't able to test too often, that wasn't too bad. But, on the other hand, when you factor in that Kimi is normally 0.3 sec faster than JPM ;) , that means i have to find 1.3+ sec to fully explore the limit of the McLaren, and then I need to do it consistenly, that's quite a daunting task.

good news, In the Career mode, i was able to meet their target and got an offer to join the Midland team as their test driver. It was at Magny Cours, I beat their target by 0.1 sec, just got in. But the subsequent tests haven't been so good, failing to meet their requirements, I'll try again next time.

I didn't bring any sponsorship money with me, so it must be my talent that got me this position. :stoned:

PS3 doesn't have force feedback because sony were getting sued by immersion who own the rights the the rumble feature and sony didn't want to pay royalties, but now, sony has given them some money and the rumble feature is coming back for future ps 3 titles.

Yeah, already force feedback is supported in the European version of the Gran Turismo HD demo. It should be a matter of time before Formula One is patched to support it too.

does anyone know what the difference between a Logitech Driving Force wheel and a Logitech Driving Force PRO or a Logitech Driving Force EX wheel?

I found one on sale, but it only says Logitech Driving Force (no PRO or EX after it) on the box, is that one compatible with PS3-F1Championship? what's the difference or the 3 steering wheels?

From the IGN review:

As for track design, the game uses real-world locations used in the 2006 Formula One season, so they're about as good as you'll find anywhere. Featuring tracks like Suzuka, Monza, Indianapolis and Monte Carlo, the count totals close to 20 courses.

just bought my ps3 and got it all online lastnite. Mighty easy to set up. fantastic. The game is great fun. Once i twigged how to turn off the mighty annoying brake and steering assist, and turn down the tc.

Have been taking it easy with short races while i get up to speed. Great first corner chaos when the lights turn green at this level!

Keep an eye for me. My online id is bunglesprout.

Does anyone know if you can alter your race strategy during the race? One thing I don't like is that I usually have at least a lap left of fuel left when its time to come in for my scheduled pit stop. If I go one more lap then request a pit stop, when I come in the fuel tank is filled up all the way as opposed to getting me to my next scheduled stop. Its really annoying.

Online is good, not great.

for some inexplicable reason, they put a big "pop up window" smack in the CENTER of the screen when ever someone enters / exits

as players exit / enter the game "freezes" and S L O O O O W S down to a crawl

when racing suddenly there'll be a freeze, and you've lost a place

no setups online [ why spend hours tweaking a setup if you can't use it Online ?]

limited to 1/3 races only [20 laps]

when you crash heavily, your car "regenerates" .... you lose time. and THEN you get a "time penalty" effectively ending your race. you cannot turn off the "after crash" penalty without turning off "corner cutting checking" = cheaters --- who thought that was a good idea ???
[let us respawn, but not get double penalised with an extra time penalty]

Well that sucks to hear about the online play. I finally opened up my PS3 and picked up the game.

It is pretty good, or maybe it just seems that way after not getting any F1 games since Career Challenge for the PS2. I managed to get everything set up, and then started a career with Midland in the easy mode, but after taking Pole and Winning the first race by 15 seconds, I had to start over in Medium mode, now I can't even get a race seat  :rotfl: I just need to play with it a little more, as I was only a couple of tenths off of making the target time. I actually enjoyed the first race weekend that I did, with all the testing and things that go on.

Just need a little more time and I will be able to live up to my gamertag name(or what ever Sony calls it) Spacktacular

the thing that annoys me about online play, is the other players!

When I used to play f1 05 online the other guys were really good. not only were they good racers but they would respect racing lines and no barging and stuff like that if collisions were turned on.

Now, the games are full of guys who act like it is an arcade game and bash their way around the course. it sucks.

I'm waiting for all the arcade guys to get sick of it and stop playing, just leaving the guys who are more interested in racing.

I don't mind crashing in the race after all the time that I spend getting my Super Happy Best Friends machine set up, it's just the way that I have been put out. The AI gives no room at all, and will just punt you, So I don't dare break a little early..... ever..... and if I have someone on my tail, and over shoot the corner(trying not to get rammed from behind) they are there to punt me half way through the corner or on the way out of it.

Is there word on a Formula One game for the PS3 for the 08 season? I almost bought a PS3 simply for the F1 game, but got a 360 instead since it has such a nice collection of racing games. A new, refined F1 game though might convince me to get a PS3 next year.

Question is, wasn't 2007 the last year of Sony's contract with FOM? If so, who took it up?

Hopefully nobody will get an exclusive deal. I loved the days when there was no exclusive license. Sony, EA, and even Atari published F1 games on the PSOne. It would be great to see Codemasters give an F1 game a go.

Hopefully ISI make a new F1 game, they were the team behind EAs stellar F1 titles.

Gmotor2 (rfactor) engined game on the consoles would be fantastic.

Looks like we won't be seeing a new F1-sim for the 08 season sadly. Which is strange, because just releasing any title with official licensing should generate more than enough sales. Especially if it is available on all platforms. And the 360 ->> PC port is more or less done in a day nowadays...

As many of you propably know, Sony's new DualShock 3 brings rumble back to PS3 and Formula One Championship Edition is one the DualShock 3 compatible games as listed by Sony. The controller, which is already available in Japan, comes to Europe and US this spring. It's about time!

Quite likely the rumble support for DualShock 3.

I fired the machine up for the first time in quite awhile to try and finish my rookie season. I haven't won a race yet, but have managed a podium and have us(Super Aguri) in a solid 5th place in the WCC and myself in 10th in the WDC

although I have quit a couple of times when something strange happened with the controller going "dead" for just a second and I crashed hard into barriers

If anyone is still playing online, I too would be interested in a race around the time of Melbourne, pretty much anytime works for me. I would be glad to join, but don't count on me being able to do any of the setting up of it :drunk: I'm way out on the west coast so everything for Melbourne takes place early in the evening for me, so maybe a race that would take place between the sat practice and qually would be great IMO

Greetings... first post.

I'm in the middle of the USA (Central Time). If we can set something up before the GP, I'd definitely be interested.

As for the online update to the game, rumble (as mentioned) has been added. Additionally, you'll notice a little less screen tearing, some tire smoke and some exaggerated tire marks on the circuit.

Friday night or Saturday night about an hour before the events would be a good time for me to play if any one is interested. I'll have plenty of coffee in my system so I don't fall asleep. Funny thing when I was younger that used to be around the time my nights got started now thats past my bed time :

does anyone know if/when a PS3 2008 (or even 07) new game is coming out?

i thought it was a shame they didnt release the title with the 2007 season - alonso/hamilton in the mclaren / 1st year kimi ferrari / hamilton rookie season etc
what a shame this season wont be recorded in a ps3 title

anyway, i think a new title is long overdue especially since the last one out was one of the first ps3 games and not close to its potential

any thoughts

also, bit dissapointing that you cannot use the R2/L2 buttons for accelaration/braking - i think it would make the game much more realistic.

There won't be a 2008, Sony lost the rights to F1 last year and no-one's picked them up yet.

It's quite strange that no one seems to have picked up the rights for the 08 season. I mean with the Lewis Hamilton Hype (hype in GB and many other countries), a couple of good Germans up there, as well as BMW and Mercedes doing well, the big interest in Spain because of Alonso and of course the Italians being crazy about Ferrari I find it strange that we don’t have a F1 title this year.

If EA can release a football game (or even 2 or 3 releases / year) someone should be able to release a good f1sim every year, no?
