I was told today that Tony Haughton (I think the "a" is right) who constructed the Macon cars in the UK the 70s, died about 18 months ago at sea off the eastern Australian seaboard. His yacht was found under sail with no-one on board. He had apparently had a history of heart trouble, and was getting along in years.
I have no further details than that at the moment.
I'm posting this for the info of UK TNFers who may remember Tony.

I can remember some of the Formula Ford cars. Was Houghton an Aussie or a Brit ?

Very British. He built the Macons, mostly FF, in the UK, and then decided to emigrate to Western Australia. He built one or two more in W Australia, virtually founded F Ford racing in W A, then went off to the east coast promoting his son's racing career. And sort of faded from sight.
There are two Macons racing in historics in WA, one of them being the Craig McAllister car, basically an FF upgraded to take a twincam and fat tyres, which Craig bought from him in UK years ago. The other I think was built here.
