Traction control and aero downforce in 1939...

I've decided to make use of my local library, as my resources dictate that buying a shed load of books in which I may be interested may result in me being cracked over the head with a large and heavy object wielded by "the missus". One of the first books I've reserved and received today is Quicksilver.

While flicking through (the physical joy of books is difficult to explain, nut I just love to get a 'feel' of them) the heading ANTI-SPIN CONTROL caught my eye. And there it was. A very basic form of Traction control designed into the proposed land speed record car designed by Porsche for Daimler-Benz (Stuck's pet project). And so I read on to the sectio headed AERODYNAMICS , and there was a description of two wings to be used for the purpose of increasing the load on the rear wheels at speed.

Okay, so it was a land speed record car, but surely the racing department might have seen the benefit of both in terms of the race cars. We'll never know of course. But, so much of what is around today, being sold as 'new technology' was pretty much there, back then - it just needed soeone to put it all together...

My late Father's recollection was that through his influence mit der Führer, Sir Oswald Mosley was doing his best to get both of these developments banned.

Is the reference to "two wings" made in regard to the Mercedes T80?
