For anybody not tuned in to ITV now (at least in the Granada region) - there is a feature on the Festival of Speed. Just showed Doug Nye driving a Vanwall!

Doug, have you written about this experience on the forum?

Cheers

Just watched it. Quite funny with the Rosberg, Hill and Moss chat

I caught it by chance, as it happens! Considering it was aired via a national network, I thought it was very good.

There was enough of the modern, plastic cars within to hold the attention of the more youthful viewership, and plenty of proper metal machinery to entertain we fossils. Without doubt a bespoke version focusing on the pre-whatever cars and drivers would have been more 'up our streets', but perhaps that will be forthcoming via other means. All-in-all I thought it captured the ambience of the event rather well.

I did, however, notice a couple of howlers - for example the *1973* Brabham BT44. And JYS proclaiming that he was wearing his 1968 helmet, when in fact it was - I'm pretty certain - his [genuine] 1969 helmet.

Nit-picking at its best!

He used the car in 1969 as well didn't he? So helmet and car would be together in the championship year, which I believe they were on about.

Good spot on the Brabham though, missed that completely. Its before my time anyway, apparently I like plastic :p

Only for the first race, AFAIK - and he wore an open-face lid...

Thanks for the tip off Steve - willl tune in for sure.

Great to see Dan Gurney   in particular and that Eagle - loads of other treats too. I'd almost forgotten what it was like to see modern drivers without their dreaded baseball cap adverts permanently attached to their heads when not in a car.

I was a bit naive  to direct my question to Doug about his Vanwall exploits, so does anyone know if he's put his pearls of wisdom on the forum anywhere about this experience?

Rob

My favourite was the Tyrrell Cosworth BT42

I thought, overall, they did a good job of capturing the atmosphere of the festival. I was a bit surprised that there was no mention of Bruno Senna driving his uncle's Lotus but, apart from that, an excellent review with something for everyone.

Generally a praiseworthy effort by all concerned, and although it has to be seen as a one-off by an independent film company, better in many respects than ITV's F1 coverage, and at least Tony Jardine seems to know what he's talking about most of the time. Anyone know the full story of why Tony is no longer doing studio comment on F1? I don't recall any official announcement, and apart from Martin Brundle, the team they have doing it now is decidedly second-best.

An insufficiently "trousers on fire" style of presentation?

Well posted hipperperson - even though we have already been alerted earlier ;) ;)

Can I suggest this alert is worthy of a new thread to let everyone know??

I'll leave it to you to ponder and post.

Cheers

It was good to hear Gurney remark that he'd be happy to see modern F1 cars lose the wings - someone has to say it!

Also good to hear Richard Petty praising 'Formula Race Cars'. A good ol' Boy!

Mr Petty gave the impression of being rather less than enthusiastic about the people and events involved in F1. Do you think he has been exposed to Bernie and Max?
