Read somewhere recently that Dr. F. Porsche designed some of the pre WWII Mercedes GP cars. Anyone know which ones?

He was involved with the S / SS /SSK from the late twenties and early thirties.

He was also in overall charge of the design of the 1924 straight 8 GP Mercedes.

I always thought that he had some input into Dr Rumpler's 1922 Benz Tropfenwagen but the chronology doesn't fit.

One of the things which precipitated his departure from Daimler-Benz in 1929 was the rejection of his proposals for a straight-eight 3.0 litre GP car. Ten years later he was working with them again: not on a GP car this time, but the Mercedes Benz LSR car which was to have been driven by Hans Stuck.

I didn't know about his 1929 proposals. Any details as to what he had in mind? Was it rear engined? (probably not, with a straight 8). 1929 probably wasn't the best time to be proposing expensive development plans with any German company - or anywhere else for that matter.

DOHC straight 8, rear axle gearbox, swing-axle rear suspension.

Sorry for the digression, but was dr. Porsche involved in A-U central-seater (that sportscar with driver in the middle and 2 passengers back, on either side of him)?
