Hello everyone! New here, and have really enjoyed looking around. Seems like a great group, and I'll be learning a lot!

I am currently on the quest for any and all information concerning German FJ driver Willy Lehmann. He worked for Heinz Melkus in the late 1950s before branching off into his own venture. I have a slew of race results through 1962, but little else--was hoping to find some more detailed information about him and the cars he drove.

Thanks in advance! :) Molly

Fantastic, I really appreciate it! Doing research on a car and chasing a hunch...unfortunately there's very little I've been able to uncover on Lehmann. Thanks!

Although probably not related to the Willy Lehmann query, I am trying to find some history of a Lola Mk2 Formula Junior that raced in Germany between 1961 and around 1966. The car was an ex Fitzwilliam Team Lola that ended up in a museum in Marxzell in 1971 ("liberated" in 2005).

WOW!! Thank you ALL so much for taking the time to respond! Some marvelous material and resources here, I am so grateful. Before TNF, Mr. Lehmann was becoming a real threat to my sanity... You guys are alright. :)

On 24 October 1962 at Krakow (Rakowice airfield) Willy Lehmann won the first international Formula Junior race in Poland. The second was Heinz Melkus, third Hans-Theo Tegeler and fourth first Polish driver Edward Wroclawski.

...and here´s my twopennies worth:

(From East German book Motorsport Almanach 1953 by Rosenhammer/Grassmann):

"Lehmann, Willy, geboren am 30. August 1925 in Bitterfeld.

The results pages in the same book list Lehmann as follows:

1950:
DDR-Bester (sic) Kleinstrennwagen bis 750 ccm
BMW-Eigenbau

1952
DDR-Meister Rennwagen Formel III
BMW-Eigenbau
(wins at Halle on June 8th, Leipzig on August 17th, and Sachsenring on September 9th)

Also, he is credited with holding the F3 lap records (at the end of the 1952 season) at the following circuits:

Leipzig Stadtpark
set in 1952 on his Eigenbau (curiously there is no mention of BMW here, unlike later events) - no average speed is given

Dresden Autobahnspinne
1951/Eigenbau/89.55 km/h

Bernburger Saale-Dreieck
1952/Eigenbau/87.57 km/h

Schwerin/Rund um den Pfaffenteich
1952/BMW-Eigenbau (!)/80.67 km/h

Schleizer Dreieck
1951/BMW-Eigenbau/85.90 km/h

That´s about it; sorry for the (hopefully not too) confusing German/English mix - if anyone would like a complete English translation, tell me and I´ll do it!
