'Le Grand Prix Automobile de Monaco 1929-1960' by Yves Naquin

Anyone know if this book is any good ?

I've seen it for a good price and was tempted...........

Be aware that the French version is much larger with giant landscape format (red hardback covers) and has far more pages than the English language edition.

I have both but my French edition has no slip case or dust jacket (I bought it at a Brooks auction years ago) and I'm not sure whether it's supposed to have one or the other.

Yes it's a good book to have. The photos are from the ACM archives and have a lot of atmosphere, a lot of crowd scenes, not just cars. A report on each race, including all the support races (even a motorbike race), detailed results, entry lists, a lot of anecdotes and potted biographies and interviews with survivors. There is a first edition (with a white dustcover) which can be either in French or both in French and English, and a second edition which is huge, with a red cloth cover (you need a big coffee table to put it on, or just use it as a coffee table like in Seinfeld) and which is only in French. The book is illustrated by Michael Turner (colour prints).

You beat me to it! No the second French edition (ie the red one) has neither slip case nor dust jacket. Come to think of it the English version is only in English, I think only the photo captions are in both languages.

Welcome to TNF Sniffer, you can always be assured of a warm welcome. I've searched and not found a reference to the Nasquin book.

I have the large edition and the photographs and quality of reproduction are very good indeed. The accuracy of the text and the captions is not so good, without really looking I spotted a number of errors, including pictures of Lotus 21s, allegedly in the 1960 race.

I searched and didn't find a reference to it either.....hence the posting!!

The edition I've seen is the English version with a white (ish) DJ and mainly (if not entirely) has photographs in B&W

The book is very large (probably A4 length on all sides if that makes sense) and it's going for 295 UK pounds which is quite a lot of money......any comments as to whether it's worth that kind of cash ?

The photographs in it are excellent......

I've just bought the Moity four volume Monaco books covering Monaco 1929-1996 (but it hasn't arrived with me yet) which has an almost identical title - not sure on having both would be beneficial.....
