Royal Enfield in India used to build the Taurus Diesel motorcycle but it has been discontinued, there was an Australian agent for a while and they used to run adverts in The Land newspaper about 10 years ago. I don't know how many they sold in Aus, probably not many.

Many years ago whilst on a ride out I saw a diesel Royal Enfield at Devils Bridge. I couldn't believe the way it was vibrating at tickover but the rider said that once under way it was OK to ride, although 'a bit slow' was the rider's comment. It seemed a bizarre concept to me.

Seen three specials at Uttoxeter once think a couple were genie engines and one a snowmobile or pavement sweeper engine. One of the genie engined ones belonged to a vjmc member about the only production one I have seen is the enfield one.

Some Guy turned up at the Norton Factory at Shenstone with a single Diesel motor. It looked good but when in first gear went down the road like a Kangaroo each firing of the engine sent the bike into a Kangaroo jump. Sorry but it looked very funny.

Following my previous contribution and then Barry's subsequent post, I wonder why nobody ever tried to market a diesel single cylinder motorcycle with an automatic gearbox or variomatic style transmission as in the DAF 33? I'm sure it would have been possible and even economically feasible in the day, but now? maybe I'm being too nostalgic, eh?

Hallo,

Did you already read about this bike:

Thunderstar

The had classic rider Jan Frank Bakker do a few laps at the Assen Ducati Club races with this bike, but it wasn't a big performance, think the problem was to much engine breaking. Laptimes where not very impressief, short time later bike was history, never to be seen again.
Like with the diesel cars in le mans engine specs are very close to petrol engines and hasn't much to do with diesel engines in modern roadcars, like mine outside the house.
