Surtees - F1 wins as a constructor?

Did a Surtees car win any F.1 race?
(I know the answer...;) )

Oulton Park Gold Cup 1970 and 1971.

Might not count, but Brian Redman also drove a TS16 to victory during a historic race at Watkins Glen a couple of years ago. It was, I believe, his first victory ever in a F1 car.

Bob Evans (TS19) at Zandvoort in May 1978.

Gordon Smiley in the TS20 at Silverstone in October 1979.

Both the above races were British F1 championship rounds.

Weren't they known as Group 8 races?

I thought the British Championship was for G8 in 1976 and '77, but was for F1 in 1978-79-80. I may be wrong . . .

Did Neil Doyle ever win a race in the TS9B he converted into a F5000?

Yes - Ruapuna Park Gold Star race 29/09/74
...against two Begg FM5s, a Brabham BT29 and a McLaren M4A. And nothing else
1974/75 was not one of the great seasons of New Zealand motor racing

Spot on Tim. And the British F1 series, re-started, in 1982... though was pretty much a disaster that final year, usually only 4-5 cars entered.

The BEST result for Surtees in F1 Grand Prix was the second place taken by Mike Hailwood at Monza in 1972.

Although he came a good deal closer to winning in the previous year's race, when he was only fourth...

Does anybody have photos of Jthe Surtees car at both Golden Cup victories ?

I think you are referring to F1 Championship races whereas the question is about all F1 races. Although there is no difference now, there used to be - as members of this forum frequently point out.

If, on the other hand, you are saying that coming second at Monzas is a better result than winning the Gold Cup that is a debatable point.
A couple of questions to consider:

1. Who did Surtees beat to win the Gold Cup?
2. Which was easier to drive competitively ? Oulton Park, or pre-chicane Monza"

I accept that British Championship rounds are inferior because the field was made up of, shall we say, second division drivers. But the Gold Cup usually attracted at least single entries from most of the top teams, except Ferrari.

If you just look at the opposition at Monza in terms of numbers - THREE Ferrrais for a start off! On both occasions when Surtees won the Gold Cup at Oulton there were NO Ferrraris entered let alone running in the race!

I would suggest that Hailwood's Monza result was head and shoulders above the two Gold Cup wins and I speak as a Northerner who loves Oulton Park.
