He looked very competitive in F2 during 1960. What happened to him?

Mike owns the Monaco Fine Arts gallery. He sponsored Ronnie Peterson in 1975(? or 1976) when he drove a March. I believe he stopped racing when he got married. Wise man!

Mike is fit well and active and as mentioned above runs his own art gallery just beside the Casino in Monaco. Still very keen on racing. His father was Dr Kenneth McKee who perfected the artificial hip joint and indeed Kenneth attended to and helped Jack Sears after his big accident. Mike tells a lovely story about racing at Brands Hatch. His father was in the crowd at Paddock Bend when Mike went off the road and crashed. Always present with his doctors bag Kenneth jumped the fence and in running to help Mike tripped and broke his ankle. Kenneth was taken off in a stretcher with Mike walking along beside him !

There seems to have been a few people of extrodinary ability around that time who just thought "Nope, I'm stopping before I hurt myself". Angus Hyslop from NZ had some pretty respectable results in FJ, then got married, packed it in and went back to being a farmer. He did do the occaisional sedan racing afterwards. Angus was pretty wealthy and I guess Mike was reasonably well off too.
I wonder if a comfortable background and the promise of a comfortable future dulls the sense of commitment to a heady motor sport goal, or did either of them get a real fright?.
It seems a really sensible thing to do - especially in those days.
Mike's results tend to suggest he could have been a very good GP driver.

That's not exactly the way I remember it
It would be more accurate to say "...then returned to NZ, got married, raced at the top level there for two more years, winning the national championship in 1963, turned to saloon racing and won the 1300cc Gp2 championship in 1967, packed it in...." etc
Don't forget that by the time he went to Europe he was hardly in the "promising young racing driver" category, unless 33 fits that description

True enough, he got married after Wigram having raced the T(XX!) Cooper (his honeymoon involved a trip to Teratonga with a racing car!), and yes he was no spring chicken. I guess my point was more that someone who clearly had the ability chose not to use it to go to the 'top' of the motorsport tree.
