;) HELLO, Louise here, my uncle is Mick Grice, who rode and still does, although not in racing manner, some years ago, I was reading a thread about him, and can not find the bloomin thing now ive registered, so................anyone interestd can put ya in touch. He still has a passion for bikes along with his many brothers, he rode a yam, and was lucky enough to be a record holder for sometime at the manx, so if anyone interested in the slightest or not, let me know... he's still a nrtwest lad, and worked with Aprillia for a while........all the best and happy biking to ya all.

Hello Louise Grice and others who may have seen her Uncle Mick race. Only just joined this forum hence the several years gap in responding to her post.

I used to ride with Mick occasionally, before he took up racing.  My last ride out with him was to Oulton Park. He was on an Ariel Arrow that he'd done quite a lot of modification to. I volunteered to be tail end charlie with him as he was running in the motor which was very tight. By the time we'd ridden from Ormskirk to Tarporley I was pretty much deaf from having ridden behind the ack ack ack of those expansion chambered pipes for an hour :drunk: .

He was just the nicest guy you could wish to meet and a rock steady, safe road rider.

If you get this, tell him to get in touch. I'm still in the saddle 46 years later, but these days in East Anglia. I'm still in touch with my old riding pal in Lancs and would welcome the chance to meet up again.

I remember Mick Grice! I was racing about the same time as him. I remember a scary moment when he fell off in front of the pack at the bottom of Devil's Elbow (Mallory) - I just missed him!

Nice chap, always very well turned out (Vladivar Vodka Maxtons).

Thanks for such a prompt rsvp knickerbrook. I have found a pic of what was labelled the winning three in the 76 Manx GP where Mick came 3rd. The label says No. 29 was Brian Robinson, but according to the MGP database he was 8th and Mick was 3rd.

I know Mick is about because an old Lancs pal told me Mick came into his shop last year and Mick asked after me. Just need to pin him down. As you said, a good stick and a very sensible rider, who I never worried about following into a bend.

Mick is listed on Friends Reunited - I have sent a message to him inviting him to join us!

Hopefully he will look us up.

(I got in touch with John Cowie a few years back using this method!).

A genuine race bike.  Interesting that the gear lever is on the right, I would have thought that most at the time would have been using left foot change.

Thats a Maxton chassis but if it was the same as the Yamaha you could swap sides easily, the gear shaft ran right through the box.

Yes, I knew that, I just thought it was unusual to see, I don't know what bike he would have learnt to ride on but I assumed it would have been a Japanese one with the lever on the left.  Looking at the photo again there are no silencers on the exhaust pipes which would put it pre 1976?

This is me at Croft, March '76 on open pipes, I know that the "C" model TZs came out in '76 with silencers fitted,  I sent mine to Harris who fitted Vesco cans to mine so it must have been for the '77 season.

Silencers became mandatory for the 1977 season. I ran my Crescent in the '76 and '77 seasons and ran no silencers for '75 and fitted a set of Swarbrick silencers (I think they were from Swarbrick) for '77.

C model TZ's did indeed come out in early 1976, but had did not have sliencers fitted.  As Tony correctly states, they became mandatory for the 1977 season.
