Cliff's own records do not record him having ever raced one but he may have forgotten something.

Oulton Park 15/04/61 - Allison's team mates in the other UDT Laystall Lotus 19 Climax cars were Henry Taylor (1st) and Graham Hill (2nd)
Aintree 22/04/61 - in this race Allison's team mates at UDT Laystall were Stirling Moss (programme has him driving a Maserati engine Lotus 19; Moss finished 1st & set the Fastest Lap) and Henry Taylor (Climax engined Lotus 19 and finishing 2nd)
I was an enthusiastic 13 year old and thororughly enjoyed my trips on consecutive week-ends to my "local" race tracks. The Oulton race was almost a demonstartion run for the Lotus 19s as they wiped the floor with the opposition whilst at Aintree again there was little opposition.

This was a BARC meeting on the Club Circuit.

David: Don't suppose you have any photos of the Aintree August race? I am trying to work out which chassis Taylor drove that day.
I am also fairly sure that Taylor was driving a 2-litre car that day, in fact he drove this car for most of the year, IIRC. So, while not wishing to take anything away from your Uncle's good drive, Taylor would have been down a few hp on him...although he probably had a better chassis.

Programme has Stirling Moss in a Maserati-engined car but I believe he raced a Climax in the end. Does anybody know what the background was to putting a Maser in the car? I know Harry Zweifel did with his hillclimb car.
Steve: did you take any photos of the 61 Aintree meets as an 'enthusiastic 13 year old'?! I am trying to work out which chassis Taylor used in August...

At the time I had a Kodak Brownie and only took pics in the paddock. I don't have any pics from the 1961 event as (a) we were not going to go round the paddock, and (b) I went as the pillion passenger on a family friends motor-bike so didn't take the camera.

No problem - but I had to ask! I'm sure one day I'll find someone who took photos there...which reminds me: Ted - you will have mail soon!
