Hi Roger

The F-Júnior born in Italy in 1958.
The Formula Júnior in Brasil, had everything to give certain, but for a series of circumstances, it failed. Luis Antonio Grecco, chief of the Willys, dreamed of Formula Brazilian Renault, that would be part of a Formula 3 South American.
In fact, good 20 years before the South America hugging the international F-3, it had a certain movement in making of this a category of integration of regional motoring, among others, promoted for Juan Manuel Fangio. He did not give in nothing…
The Willys produced the Gávea, that arrived to run in the Argentina Season of 1966, and Argentines and Uruguayans had also produced its “monopostos†(monoranks in English?).

In the specific case of Brasil, the Willys was in phase of transistion in 1966: soon it would be expropriated by the Ford, that for obvious reasons did not have no reason to promote a Renault Formula, nor neither was interested for the F-3.

Brazil seemed predestinate to continue without a category of monoranks ? (monoposto in Portuguese= formula), even so had an obvious exit: the Formula Vê with cars equipped with engine of 1 liter, cars of line - that is, greaters of what 500cc of the English F-3.

In 1959, two of the best Brazilian pilots of the time, Christian Heins had embarked in one season of F-Júnior in the Europe, and the case of D’Orey, United States. The chosen car was the Stanguellini, with motor Fiat. (Heins also ran with a Moretti). Even Heins has gotten good results (two second places), was D’Orey who gained a race: GP of Messina in 1959, with “dobradinha†Brazilian one, because Heins arrived in second. It was in 23/08/1959.

In 1960, Christian Heins was enrolled in the races of F-Júnior in Cuba, but nor travelled for there.
Chico Landi joined the necessity of if forming a truily national (Brasilian) category with cars of more modern conception. Together with Toni Bianco, who later would draw the brasilian car Furia, and Eugenio Martins, constructed the Landi-Bianco, cars of the Brazilian F-Júnior, with back engine and more modern conception.

Then in 1962 , these cars had started to run in Brasil, but unhappyly, the category did not avenge in the original form…

The Landi-Bianco cars could be equipped with engines DKW and Gordini, to be in accordance with the international regulations (up to 1 liter), and “sometimesâ€, could be equipped with engines VW.

The races had been few, and the F-Júnior had finished being used with engines more powerful, as the JK and the Simca, and mixed to the races with more powerful cars. It is fit to remember that these were tumultuous politics moments in Brazil (1964)… The driver Marinho run with a F-Júnior with engine DKW, number 10, Bino Heins with one Gordini engine, and Jayme Silva with Simca engine.

The Fórmula Júnior with Simca and JK had the nickname of “first Brazilian F-1â€, (it is in the photo 8)… It is just a nickname, because the engines were of cars of stroll, good far from a waited performance of a F-1, and description because the F-1 of the time was equipped with engines of 1,5 liters, and not them 2 litros+ of the JK and the Simca.

But this gave some supervened to the Landi-Bianco, that had “bribed†the Maserati and Ferrari-Corvette, with the double or four power of cc , in the race 500 km of Interlagos, run in the external ring of Interlagos.

Unhappyly, it was in one of the Landi_Bianco with engine JK, that died the brazilian driver Celso Lara Barberis, in the version of 1963 of the race.

More luck had Christian Heins, whom it arrived in 5° with a Landi-Bianco Gordini, in the race of 1962, and Jayme Silva, that arrived in 4°, with a Landi-Bianco Simca, and Marivaldo Fernandes, 6° with a Landi-Bianco Gordini in 1963. Another drivers in this race:
Mário César Camargo Filho (Jorge Lettry team) with a DKW engine, Francisco Lameirão and Luiz Pereira Bueno (Gordini engine).

As supposedly one twelve monoranks had been only builed, they run in races grouped with Mecanica-Continental category, “charutinhos†of the time. Chico Landi won a race, in Araraquara, in 1962, with the car with engine JK (that car did not respect the international regulament).

In 30 of June of 1963, in Interlagos, Anisio won a race, with a DKW Júnior.
Little by little, the Landi-Bianco had disappeared of the tracks, and the next real attempt to forming a Brazilian category of monoranks were the F-Ve, in 1966, that also it had soon life, disappearing in 1968…

The F-Júnior of the Vemag had the distinction to turn the Carcará, the first Brazilian car of records.
Formula Júnior could have been an excellent category for Brazil, but it was predestinold to the failure, more early or later.

If you want more photos of the Landi_Bianco in races, I can send to you...

Internationally the F-Júnior, would only survive up to 1964, being substituted for the structure F-1, F-2 and F-3…

Best wishes,
SS.

Olá David

In 03/07/1954 the "Automóvel Club do Brasil" imported a Ferrari with pieces, accessories and twelve tyres 700x16 and 550x16.
All the material had 750 kg and cost just US$ 16.000,00… :stoned:

Chico Landi won some races in Interlagos with the Ferrari… Celso Lara Barbéris too...

Sergio
Fritz D'Orey raced in Europe in Stanguellinis FJ in 1959, he also tested the Tec Mec F1 but I don't think he raced it. He had a big shunt in a Ferrari sports car and injured himself badly so retired from racing

Good John.

It is right. He raced in the F1 1959 Gps: France, England (with Maserati Centro Sud Team) and EUA Camoradi Team) with Tec Mec-Maserati.

Today he is living very well in Rio de Janeiro city....

Have a good weekend

Fritz d'Orey, as weird as it may seem, is an avid Macintosh user, and is also a collector of these machines, even being featured on the 100th edition of Macmania magazine.

And not a single Willys Interlagos in the pictures... :(
That's an Alpine-Renault A108 in other climates. Emerson had one... :)

Panzani, many thanks for the Willys link, above.

The red link at the bottom of the home page leads to a super list of links for Brazilian racing. I urge TNFers to take a look, it is nice and different. Even if you do not understand Portuguese, the pictures make it worthwhile.
There is one link to JMFangio testing a DKW, stuff about the first race in 1933, with an 8C 2300 MONZA, lists of Rio race winners etc, plus lots of Brazilian racing fro 1962 onwards.

Take a look.

The most amazing brazilian racing car was the Fittivolks, a 3200cc fiberglass Volkswagen, faster than a 5 litre Lola T70, and only 6 seconds slower than a 5.4 litre Ford GT40 in a 2 mile racing track... see the report:

http://www.obvio.ind.....s motores.htm

Ah... the guy who won the pole with the Alfa P33 was José Carlos Pace (Môco was his nickname in Brazil).
