Since I learned that the last foreign "nameplate" to race in NASCAR was an MG, I've been trying to find a photo to share with our FOX and Speed viewers. No luck yet.
Here's what we know:
.
The August NASCAR race each year at Bowman-Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC was the "International 200". Promoters Bill France and Alvin Hawkins always had a few import cars in the race. A bugeye Sprite even ran in the event one year! Some were "field fillers", others tried to run against the Grand National regulars.
.
Smokey Cook usually drove a modified coupe in the weekly events there. He wheeled a #3 1952 MG in the 1960 race, and a #32 MG in 1963.
.
We are trying to confirm if Smokey's #32 car is the same 1954 MG owned by Robert Carpenter, that Robert Berrier drove in that race in 1961 and 1962. Berrier, brother of Modified ace Max Berrier, finished both races, placing 15th and 13th respectively.
.
By 1963, the car was just a field filler, and earned starting money only.
.
Cook died several years ago, and the trail is growing cold. Any assistance would be most welcome.
Thanks,
Mike Joy

I may not be able to help directly on this one, but since I saw a thread related to this within racing comments i'll mention here too.

One place which maybe able to assist with your search would be the MG-Rover enthusiast forum at www.mg-rover.org alot of its members have an interest in the racing image of the MG name and do know of their racing past which i'd think someone there may have or can point you where you need

also it could be worth checking here as well http://forums.xpowerforums.com/ (named after the former racing wing of MG when under Phoenix management) as it is a sister site to mg-rover.org
