The man! End of story! I saw JC many times, how lucky am I, still my favourite all time driver, and a gentleman also

If only F1 cars are "loose" like this 49, I wonder if all the drivers could do a Ronnie, Gilles or Jim Clark

I think this is the right place to ask. I'm looking for some nice high resolution historic f1 pictures, especially Clark sliding in a lotus and Mika flying. I want to frame them so resolution has to be good enough for a4 size.

I think the thread originator is looking for great F1 pics....

That very sad picture of Roland at Imola, I really dont think fills the criteria....

Yep, get rid of it  Very disrepectful.

Been looking for this pic for ages, hard to find these days. The EJ-11 was a very distinctive car, looking like a fighter jet. Great job on the livery as well.

Seat fitting for a run in Senna's McLaren at Goodwood. He never got it up the hill I believe, the gearbox broke down at an earlier demo.

If memory serves me rightly it was the young Senna who ruined his chance of driving his heros car! :p

Here's a cool photo I seen recently of Nuvolari flying out of an arch at the Bergamo circuit in his Alfa Romeo. A cool image from a very long time ago.

That's a shot used by many, many photographers down the years.

My personal favourite is this one.

Features a real F1 legend too!

Yeah but most aren't as good a photograph as the Glock one. I prefer Nigel as a driver but the visor isn't level, the reflections are angled and obstruct his eye and nose, the visor covers half his 'tash, he's not looking into the camera, the composition doesn't work as well (both where the head is in the photo and where and how much the visor covers), also Glock has his eyes framed nicely within the visor by the black line and Toyota stripe etc

To be a great F1 photo it's got be be a great photos as well as being about F1.

Researching.... some firms are a bit scared of copyright etc. I know a guy with the equipment who'll do it anyway though... I'll update. Actually I don't if that's in the forum rules lol

I reckon the Mansell visor snap is an opportunity shot, where the photographer has seen something interesting and snapped.

The Glock one looks posed I reckon.

Back to topic (there is a 'caption time' thread)

This is one of the most telling photos about Fangio. In this GP (Monza, 1957) Fangio again and again overtook Tony Brooks at the Curva Grande (the corner after the start-finish straight chicanes, which did not exist at that time; Brooks marveled about how Fangio could pass him there, because Brooks tried to just touch the brakes. He (Brooks) said that 'perhaps he was not breaking at all'. After his retirement, Fangio gave one of his protégés the advice of not breaking.

What Fangio used to do was to brake slide into the corner and then to powerslide out of it. You can see him doing the later (the other driver here is not Brooks, but Moss). For those interested, there is a very good analysis of the process in Taruffi's book.

How can Autosport, of all companies, allow the posting of obviously copyrighted photographs?

inline linking (or hotlinking) of images does not violate US copyright laws, although it could be different elsewhere.

Inline Linking
'Google does not...display a copy of full-size infringing photographic images for purposes of the Copyright Act when Google frames in-line linked images that appear on a user’s computer screen. Because Google’s computers do not store the photographic images, Google does not have a copy of the images for purposes of the Copyright Act. In other words, Google does not have any “material objects...in which a work is fixed...and from which the work can be perceived, reproduced, or otherwise communicated” and thus cannot communicate a copy. Instead of communicating a copy of the image, Google provides HTML instructions that direct a user’s browser to a website publisher’s computer that stores the full-size photographic image. Providing these HTML instructions is not equivalent to showing a copy. First, the HTML instructions are lines of text, not a photographic image. Second, HTML instructions do not themselves cause infringing images to appear on the user’s computer screen. The HTML merely gives the address of the image to the user’s browser. The browser then interacts with the computer that stores the infringing image. It is this interaction that causes an infringing image to appear on the user’s computer screen. Google may facilitate the user’s access to infringing images. However, such assistance raised only contributory liability issues and does not constitute direct infringement of the copyright owner’s display rights. ...While in-line linking and framing may cause some computer users to believe they are viewing a single Google webpage, the Copyright Act...does not protect a copyright holder against [such] acts....'

just swap google with autosport...

but european law could be very different, in which case your all naughty boys/girls lol

During the '60s, one of the American car magazines printed a photo of Jack Brabham biting his tongue as he went around a turn somewhere. I thought that was a great shot. Great sports shot are in actuality great portraits. I would like to have seen Karsh of Ottawa shoot at a sporting event.

I remember someone once saying - not here, on another forum - that they'd seen pictures of Ayrton Senna testing at Jacarepagua at sunset back when it was the first round of the championship and teams used it for testing. I don't have any of them, but I do have some similar ones from Abu Dhabi. They're so big that I'm going to link to them externally.

Alguersuari
Barrichello 1
Barrichello 2
Rosberg
Trulli 1
Trulli 2
Sutil
Sutil 2
Liuzzi
Liuzzi 2
Raikkonen
Konayashi 1
Kobayashi 2

The full sets are here and here. I expect there will be more up after tonight's race. I've currently got that one of Barrichello at sunset, looking like he's driving on a circuit made of gold as my desktop.

Some amazing pictures - telling such stories of Formula 1 past and present.

Thank you for sharing!

These are three of my favourites ( a little indulgent)....

Never ceases to amaze me that Robert Kubica walked away from this crash with nothing more than a few bruises.

This photo is so entrancing. Look at the houses sat at the circuit, spectators cars just feet from the track, just one crash barrier in sight, no kerbs, the suspension of Hills car compressed as it goes through the dip, who was the guy that didn't get away ? how did Stewart get past jimmy ? The clock shows the time as 3:30pm or so, the race ran 32 laps and took 2 hours 23 minutes.

Perhaps the most shocking thing is that of the 19 drivers that started the race 6 would be dead within 7 years, all from racing accidents.
