Superb photo. The sense of speed, the nose down under braking, those ginormous rear tires ...

My contribution to this thread.....my F1 set.....

There will be more as I haven't gotten very far into my F1 archives. They will all be from Long Beach, lovely Las Vegas and Montreal.
Hi Marc. I've really been enjoying your pictures here and the Formula Atlantic ones with Villeneuve/ Rosberg etc that you posted in the Nostalgia forum. Wish I could have been there really!

Couldn't find a pic so I screen-capped from a Youtube video. You get the idea well enough.
Alain Prost attempting to push his dead McLaren over the finish line to win at Hockenheim.
Its early, and I havent finished my 1st coffee yet, but i had a slight WTF moment when for a second i took that as some 'jackass' style thing, with prost on a stakeboard or rollerblades, getting towed along behind.
Then i noticed noone in the cockpit.

Well, since I'm going the the Long Beach Grand Prix, some nostalgia shots.
Gilles Villenueve coming off Linden's Leap
Mario Andretti, coming up the hill onto the pit straight.
Nelso Piquet coming off Linden's Leap
I believe that would be Alan Jones in the Williams FW07
Too bad for us Californians it's IRL and ALMS at Long Beach now at not F1.

You could be right, I just hit Nelson Piquet, Long Beach on Bing and that's what I got.I believe that would be Alan Jones in the Williams FW07
No kidding about the demise of the racing at LB, the old days were spectacular sitting at the bottom of the hill as they came off the pit straight.
The only reason I'm going this year is that I missed last year for the first time ever because of FTG's takeover and my refusal to put one thin dime in his pocket, and the buds bought the wife and I tickets this year so we would go again. TBH, I'm not all that excited, back in the day I'd be there every day, all day.

I'm glad you enjoy my flickr stuff, it's definitely been fun going through it all and getting it out for the world to see.
It's put me in touch with a number of old racing friends. I even got an email from Bruno G. today so I'll be putting up more of him in the not too distant future...and a lot of other stuff when I get the time.
mrut29:
I wasn't far from Hunt when he was expressing his displeasure to Depailler. Unfortunately I didn't get it on film. I had forgotten all about that 'til I saw that pic. Definitely one from a world long gone.

You shouldn't really post images of fatal accidents IMHO......
A marshal and photographer were killed by debris following a collision involving Gilles Villeneuve's Ferrari and Ronnie Peterson's Tyrrell P34 on lap five.

Grow up. Racing is dangerous. People died because they ignored rules about where to spectate.

Same here, i don't know how placing a picture of Roland dead in his car fits any criteria at all.
That's like placing a picture of Jochen Rindt slumped in his car in Monza 1970 and calling it "great".
Yep, get rid of it Very disrepectful.
now....

I came across this slideshow/tribute of one of the greatest drivers that ever lived and i think that sometimes, such as in this case, silence is better than speaking. You should watch it fullscreen and in HD and then it's absolutely breathtaking.

Érik Comas
Ligier JS35
1991 German Grand Prix, Hockenheim
Photographer: Unknown
Comas crashed heavily in Saturday morning free practice at the second chicane, losing control under braking and colliding with a pile of tyres at the first apex. He was dazed, but returned to action for the afternoon's qualifying session (in which Nigel Mansell accused him of baulking) after a hospital check-up. He qualified 26th and last, but retired on lap 22 when his Lamborghini engine failed. The chicane was reprofiled the following year. I love how he is staring directly into the camera in this shot.

Reminds me of the photos in the papers the day after Massa hit the wall in Hungary last year, staring spookily ahead at the camera from his injured eye - a very compelling photo but don't really want to put a link on here.

I have a big book of Schlegelmilch photos and this one covers a 2 page foldout spread, looks absolutely fantastic when it's blown up. It's the 156/85 at Monaco with Stefan J driving into what appears to be the swimming pool section, though I'm not sure, maybe Ste Devote...
