Willie Green was in good spirits, and didn't seem at at all preturbed by the loss of his recent court action re. his 2005 Revival accident.

The Lancia D50 Replica he was driving both looked and sounded great! The patina and condition of the car is such that it looks more like a real one would in period than a real one!

It was great to see Alan Minshaw out in the Maserati T61 Birdcage. Older TNF'ers are probably reminded of scrutineer Bob Owen who often campaigned his red T61 at Oulton Park many moons ago.............

I witnessed Nigel Bancroft's Tony Mantle owned Chevron B17 (pictured here coming into the paddock with Antony Taylor's B24) give the armco a hefty clout at Chapel on it's final run on Saturday from the pedestrian bridge above; it didn't half make the three marshals jump who were sitting behind it!!!

I was completely smitten with Martin Bolesover's McLaren M6B GT roadcar. I heard the commentator say that it had been a roadcar originally, was converted to a racecar and then converted back again. I know that the history of these cars is a can of worms as a search of the Forum can confirm, but to my mind there were only two proper cars, and I could be talked up to as many as three or possibly four, but the two I remember clearly were Bruce's red roadcar, and David Prophet's racer. Which one is this, anyone?

IIRC he raced in Formula E for a while.

I'm really pleased the 1 litre F3's are back on the scene again. Great little cars and great racing :)

It's difficult for me to comment on value-related issues, given that I didn't pay to get in, but to me the CPoP has a pleasing diversity and ambience. The competitors I spoke to were largely in favour, too. I haven't had time to edit my way through hundreds of images since I returned to the southern end of the UK, but here are a few snapshots...

Posted Image
The Bugatti Veyron seemed quite popular among the under 15s. I preferred Chris Hudson's T35B.

Posted Image
I've no idea who or what this might be. I'm just glad somebody else is doing it.

Then again, the same applies to anything with two wheels...

I really must thank you all for the photos and I think I will come over from Norn Irn next year to see the cars etc. One thing only...I suppose the Bugatti Veyron is probably older than Chris Hudson's "Type 35".

Can anyone put me straight the impression I got was that an awful lot of the cars in the 'pit area' didn't actually venture out? Springing to mind are at least two of the Mini's, Healey 3000, Porsche 917, Silk Cut Jaguar, FEV 5H MK1 Escort, anyone know why that was??? :well:

So has anybody got to the bottom of the above question i'm still intrgued...

A few more from today. Pleased to report that I caught up with Elansprint - not difficult, as he was struggling to overcome his back trouble. The forecast bad weather finally put in an appearance and called a halt to proceedings for a while, so torrential was the downpour, and resulted in the fourth timed run being abandoned. Topping the times, which were all set on Saturday, was Justin Law with the Lister Jaguar after an impressive drive. Best Sunday time came from Alan Watkins in the ex-Malcolm Wilson Escort.

No doubt there will be moans about the weather and the fact that people got muddy, but if you stage an event at the height of the English 'summer', what does one expect? Here's hoping for two sunny days next year.

Posted Image
Would you buy this demonstrator ex-works? The Bentley test drivers didn't hold back.

I was most impressed by the superb electric cars built and demonstrated by the girls from Sandbach High School, both of which completed the course at a cracking pace. Top marks, girls.

The superb, and rarely seen, Aston DB3S of regularity winner, Brian Classic
Posted Image
The Army produced some serious kit which distracted Rainford while Jon Minshaw was crashing behind him. Can't find this one on the time sheets.
Posted Image
Did I mention that it rained?
Posted Image
...but nobody told 'Whizzo'

In response to Brynmor's post, a number of cars weren't actually entered in the competition, but were there to add some more variety. Justin Law explained that the Jaguar would have been totally unsuitable with the hump-back bridge, but he brought it so that people could see it, while, I think, the same applied to the Finburgh Porsche, although it was entered. The Bronson McLaren had a problem so didn't run. Could be that the same applied to some others.

Well there were certainly Healey 3000's running on Friday in the Rally Cars class. Mark Finburgh seemed to be there alone with his GT40 and Porsche 917, but only took the Ford out on Friday. Don't know about the Slik Cut Jag, but Justin Law was wandering about on Friday in his racesuit?!?! Maybe more transpired today...... anyone???

Have just returned from Cholmondeley, muddy, tired and deaf after acting as one of Steve Wilkinson's little helpers for three days. Nigel reckoned it was a problem with his brake master cylinder which caused him to clout the barrier. No real problems today apart from the rain! four weeks to get the Brabham and Chevron cleaned and readied for Oulton and the Gold Cup. Identified giraffe by the simple expediant of reading his jumper.

Two very interesting days spent at the PoP, my thanks to the organisers, and also everyone who ventured out to put in demo runs on a very wet track mid-pm Sunday onwards! All I need to do now is dry out my camera that got a little damp, so that I can get the pics off it :|

Nice to see two old transporters (BRM and Tyrrell) on site, albeit hidden slightly behind Hall & Hall's stand.

It will be very interesting to see haw the attendance figures stack up against last year.

I thought it was a very good event overall. Nice to be able to get a good paella and a decent cup of coffee too! My only complaints are that more thought should be given to the requirements of young families; although this doesn't affect me directly, the plight of the buggy-pushers crossing the water bridges inparticular (and other obstacles around the site) was painful to observe.
In addition, the show was too widespread, and could easily have been condensed with a bit of thought. Some of the car clubs were so far out as to become something of an afterthought, and you would only be likely to pass them on your way in or out, which was a shame for some of them I thought, who deserved more attention.
Finally, unless you were a family (for example where 2 or 3 kids entered free) it was costly, but the kid thing paid off as there were hundred's of em! That I approve of, as it's the future and heritage of the sport that benifits.
Bravo The Marquess and Peter Rickett!

Many thanks for all the splendid photos chaps, it's almost like I was there.

Oh, I was, and for many hours too, but failed to see much action due to activity on the Oulton Park stand.

The event has a certain charm, some nice machinery and gives one an insight into the "Cheshire Set" especially when strolling around the "Lifestyle Pavilion". I think that's what it was called anyway.

Thanks to the TNF visitors who came to say hello. It was also a pleasure to hear some of Roger Stones' stories whose Lola T142 graced our stand. Roger was a young spectator at the 1950 British Grand Prix!

A few of you know my feelings towards sprints, hill climbs etc. Give me a track full of cars arguing about a limited amount of space into the first corner any day....

I think I've already met him. And talking of books, he is in my bad books as he didn't drop by to say hello at Chumley.

Hi Phil and Giraffe

Thanks for the photos, you should have dropped in to say hi ! We had great fun over the weekend with the B24, amusing highlight of the weekend was Dad returning to the paddock after his first run, arriving at a 3 way junction with no marshalls or signs - he decided straight on must be the correct way and ended up at the main road !! A quick 3 point turn and back the other way, only to meet an equally lost Andrew Wareing in his Williams - we meanwhile were all in the paddock wondering where on earth they all were !!

Cheers

It's difficult for me to comment on value-related issues, given that I didn't pay to get in, but to me the CPoP has a pleasing diversity and ambience. The competitors I spoke to were largely in favour, too. I haven't had time to edit my way through hundreds of images since I returned to the southern end of the UK, but here are a few snapshots...

The Bugatti Veyron seemed quite popular among the under 15s. I preferred Chris Hudson's T35B.

I've no idea who or what this might be. I'm just glad somebody else is doing it.

Then again, the same applies to anything with two wheels...

Sorry to digress but I was wondering if that McLaren road car is actually the original one that I snapped in the Brands paddock about two thousand years ago?

I do realise that the registration is different, so how many did they make?

Mark Finburgh's dramatic Porsche 917 was in the paddock, but I think it didn't run due to it's unsuitability for the track. Always nice to look at though.

Mark did however run his GT40. Whilst the history of his 917 is well documented, I don't know the history of this car.
Mark had his calling card in the window of both of his cars; how the hell he manages to park them in Soho Square I really don't know!

I think Giraffe had it just about right
There was Bruce's personal car, and the Trojan-built one which David Prophet raced, a second Trojan car built for promotional purposes, and maybe a fourth car built in period. Another half-dozen have been built since

IIRC John Woolfe had one now I think about it, taking delivery at the same time as Prophet. Neither could race them at the Tourist Trophy in 1970 due to a homologation cock-up (that was never concluded largely due to Bruce's death). Both Woolfe & Prophet hastily organised old Lola T70 Mk3's to tide them over that race pending homologation.............
