I learned from "Motorsport Aktuell" that Beate Nodes died of a heart attack, only 44 years old. For those not familiar with German motorsport, Beate was the first woman to score a podium in the DTM at the Avus in 1986, driving a Sierra turbo.

Sad news... Don't recall her tin top success, but she did well in FFord in the eighties, and a real looker she was, too! All the best die young... :(

Very sad indeed...

Michael, you are absolutely right - she was quite a point of interest in the Fiesta Ladies Cup and later in the DTM paddocks !

Here are two photos, taken at Norisring 1987, when she was driving the Sierra :

Oh dear, it's really not a very good month for motorsport.

RIP Beate - 44 is no age, is it?

Unfortunately not - though he lives only about 40 KM away from me.
But - this question does come up quite often, since Mr. Pickel has the Mercedes dealership in Erlangen.
He is very active in historic Rallyes nowadays, mostly with a very nice Böhringer replica type Benz and a rally prepared Pagoda.

Actually, I did not know, that he was active in the past - thank you for that photo.

He was quite famous in Rallycross with his massive 280CE with 6.3l engine during the early 1970s – although all but successful with that "battleship"… AFAIK he used to drive it on the roads as well to some of the RX venues…

It is always interesting to see and read, what some people did in the past.
Thank you for that info.
