Kenny is in his 50th or 51st consecutive season of motor racing and was racing in his umpteenth NZGP - legend has it that his mother has attended every race meeting over that 50/51 yrs but never actually watched a race - preferring to wait back in his pit, clutching her trademark handbag.
Most people called her Dorothy - Kenny did, but I never could. So, Rest in Peace Mrs Smith

She was very much a part of his racing - I can't remember a meeting when she wasn't in attendance, usually with other family members in tow

Kenny Smith and his mother Dorothy
Kenny Smith's biggest fan has passed: Sad news to report. Kenny Smith's Mum Dorothy died last Saturday evening. She was at the race track (Manfield) with Kenny on Saturday and took a turn and was rushed to hospital where she passed away later in the evening.
Kenny raced on Sunday. He said that she would have "Kicked his bum if he hadn't".
