I understand that former-ERA owner/restorer/racer Bill Morris has passed away following a long battle against a devastating neurological condition. A long-time employee of Smith's Industries, Bill was a fine engineer - and a dedicated Racer...in every respect.

I echo that...very sad.

I was introduced to him by a mutual friend before I understood his great significance in historic motor racing circles. He was charmingly tolerant of my ignorance...RIP Bill.

That is sad. The world of historic racing, particularly those who run and love ERAs owes him a great deal.

Very sad news. I met Bill Morris when I chauffered Cyril Kieft to Silverstone to see his GP car debut, and again at Cyril's memorial service. Bill was a very kind host, very considerate and a very likeable man. He did a tremendous job in debuting the Kieft car. Please may I add my condolences.

Bill was a smashing bloke. He retired to spend the winters in Australia and would be at Philip Island and then back for MM and English summer.
Its the first night of MM tonight and he really enjoyed the event

What a shame to hear. I shall always remember the yarns (and the beers!) on the ERA's. His knowledge on the ERA was limitless. I specially remember him putting me in contact with an ERA owner who raced a car I remember as a kid racing in Rhodesia.
Always in my memory.

Recently I found that his full name was William Roger Giles Morris.

From an unknown source I have a Brit called Bill Morris being born on 11 June 1936.

Can anyone confirm or deny that this is W.R.G. Morris' birthday?
(Or are/were there two chaps of the same name in motor racing circles?)

ISTR reading that "our" W R G (Bill Morris) was 21 when he bought his first ERA in 1962

But I've been wrong before :)

On the home page of the Kieft site that Reinhard linked to, it says:

BILL MORRIS 1942-2009

so that would rule out the Bill Morris born in 1936.
