The predictions for turkey seemed about right. except for the 'bad' performance of the Ferrari. Was this just bad luck during the race or weren't they up to speed?
http://forums.autosp...howtopic=109789

In Spain we saw the flaws of the McLaren. They had no downforce in the long flowing corners. In Monaco with is slow corners they seemed to have some pace. Toyota seems to be the opposite of the McLaren. Doing very bad on the streets of Monaco, while being up there in Barcelona.
Ferrari made steps in Barcelona and Monaco. Red bull had a bad weekend, but at least got some data on their new double deck diffuser. The Brawns were good as usual, but the gap they had in Melbourne has been decreasing every grand prix. That said, what will Turkey bring us?

My guess for Silverstone is the red bulls on pole, getting beaten in the pit stops by at least one of the brawns. Their race pace is unrivalled. Mclaren could perform even worse than in Turkey because the Kers system is rumoured to be less effective on the Silverstone circuit. I don't have faith in the Ferrari pace, Toyota might have the upper hand, maybe Nico Rosberg will beat them again as well.

What do you guys think will be the pecking order?

The big battle will be for 3rd team after Brawn and RBR, it could go any way depending who's got good updates and how well they run their weekends. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Ferrari revival.

Will Mac have their new package that Whitmarsh was trying to move up from Germany? Hope so or it's going to be tough.

Button with a sure win. The podiums would be worth discussing if someone had the pace to match Button.

I think Webber could be worth a punt for a maiden win. Silverstone is a good circuit for him, saw him win in F3000 in 2000 in a car that seemed far from the best. I think the RBR will be untouchable from Copse down to Stowe, and I think Mark might Seb. Although there remains the chance of RBR cocking up the strategy again and gifting it to Jens. If it rains, RBR for certain, but maybe Seb will take it (his wet race record speaks for itself).

Rubens has a long history of success at Silverstone, but despite the wide variety of excuses he has come up with this season, his main problem is he does not drive this car as fast as Jenson.

Hoping for Ferrari to be back on form too. Kimi for the podium.

Sliverstone will probably put everything into making this event a success. Would be a nice final 'up yours' gesture to Bernie.

i think this be a fight between redbull, brawn and toyota. Possibly redbull having the advantage as there is to many fast corners before the slow stuff for brawn drivers to make any impact on time lost.

I understand this is the fastest circuit by number of high-speed corners, so redbull have got to be the best through them and they are not THAT slow in the slow corners either.

For me KERS cars will not figure as much as there is not much hard breaking points around the circuit to charge and fire the car down striaghts, so they maynot be much of a issue on laptime in qualy trim. but race starts they could be a factor.

toyota have a good high speed stability and could sneak and split the redbull and brawns.

i just think redbull MAY have to much for brawn at silverstone and i think webber could be the man he always qualifys well here.
buttons devastating qualy/race pace MAY bring him closer to redbulls but i think its time redbull do something great here, they made to many mistakes not to at least get a win on a circuit most suited to them.

Also think rubens has a great chance, he out-qualified michael and out raced him there, and he spent his early days in f3 and knows the circuit as good as anyone on the circuit, do not under estimate rubens here i think he could beat button here.

1. webber
2. vettell
3. button/barichello

TF109 has proven to be very good car at high-speed corners, their main loss in Turkey came from sector 3 as in Barcelona and on the overall slow Monaco. They should be up there with Red Bull and hopefully challenging Brawn.

Toyota will be stronger and one of them will pop in 2nd, podium will be rounded off with a Red Bull.

It's probably the best chance of the year for Rubens and Mark. Might be worth watching thanks to that. But Jenson must be the favourite still.

Mark has always done well here. Don't think Rubens will be able to beat Jenson. Why do you think this race is his best chance?

I don't think it's his best chance but I think a combination of Murphy's and the Fisi-Heikki law* will come into play.

*The Fisi-Heikki law states that any muppet in a championship car will win a race.

Because Rubens has always gone well at Silverstone. People seem to think it's 'his' circuit.

I would like Jenson to win his home race, but think Rubens or a Red Bull might just sneak in there, unfortunately.

Webber would be a Aussie hero for life if he won at Silverstone.

I wouldn't mind Rubens or Webber winning the race as I support them along with Button, but I want Button to win his home race so I predict a podium of Button/Barrichello/Webber.

It'll be very close though and I will not rule out the Toyota's or Williams either.

McLaren will struggle with the fast corners here and it'll be a achivement to get out of Q1 for them.

I am going to call a Trulli win.

Toyota have the opposite problem to McLaren. McLaren suffer in high speed corners, whereas Toyota suffer in low speed. Brawn is good everywhere, but Red Bull and Toyota are a bit better in the high speed corners.

That's quite true but to me, Button and Brawn have usually had the strategy spot on, without it, they could have lost a few races. Toyota have made some odd strategy choices and with that, combined, a Brawn will win.

It'd be nice if they didn't though.

You are right. Toyota could have already won if they had a strategist that monitored the race rather than following a pre set strategy. Still, a combination of Toyota's high speed advantage together with a healthy dose of hope, (as a Trulli fan), means that I am calling a Trulli win.

My favourite drivers are Alonso, Button and Trulli. Alonso has already won 2 WDC's, Button will win the WDC this year, so right now I am in "Go Trulli" mode. :)

IIRC Toyota seem to also go better when it is warmer - what is the temp looking like for the gp?

EDIT: depending where you look, dry/high teens or wet/mid to high teens forecast - maybe not quite warm enough and if it is wet at all I can't see the Toyotas being a chance for the win, barring any SC interventions...

I think Bahrain provided Toyota with a much better chance of a win than Silverstone will. The track suited them, they did alot of testing and the car was great over a lap. Silverstone is much closer to Turkey in corner duration and speed than Bahrain. I predict:

Brawn
Red Bull

Toyota

Ferrari
Williams
BMW
McLaren
Renault

STR

Force India

I'd like to see rain... it would give Lewis a chance at points for his home race, and I think we'd see a real battle at the front. Button mentioned that they know why there "slow" in the rain last time and have prepared to be better, so we could see four of the best weather drivers in the two best cars all going for the win.

If it's dry, I think the Ferraris will rebound from a disappointing performance in Turkey and mix in with the Brawns or Red Bulls (whichever is slower).

Do we know which tyres have been selected for this race?

Trulli winning on his own? I doubt it.
Brawns, Red Bulls and Toyotas will cover the top 6, but BUtton should win again.

Alas, yes. Probably the most difficult circuit on the calendar for a KERs car which doesn't have sufficient rear downforce. I actually wonder whether they might experiment on Friday without KERS on one of the cars.

All in all I think we will see a close fight between BGPs and RBR and Toyota with the Brawn's (Button again ) edging it in terms of race pace.

Sligthtly O/T, some fans are talking about staging a protest next weekend to do with the current FIA/FOTA situation, it'd be interesting to see placards of "GET MAX OUT" signs, would marshalls be forced to take signs off them? Be funny seeing FIA trying to stop a protest.

Another event to be over shadowed by off track politics? sigh...

Brawn showed in Turkey that they are not just strong in slow corners. In Turkey they were fast in ALL corners. Maybe it was a case of the the conditions suiting them more then rivals, but it's hard to tip against them. They have a dominant car.

This is the best chance so far for Redbull but after Turkey you have to be skeptical.

I expect Toyota to be 3rd strongest, but maybe with some luck or a light strategy in first stint they have have more impact in the race and beat a Redbull or Brawn.

Ferrari and Williams to fight out p5-p8. With maybe Alonso or a BMW stealing a point.

Last time I looked at the weather it said Saturday was 50% chance of some light rain. A sprinkle right before quali started would certainly spice things up. Temps will be on the lower side.

Hopefully the BBC won't let it then.

I think Bahrain provided Toyota with a much better chance of a win than Silverstone will. The track suited them, they did alot of testing and the car was great over a lap. Silverstone is much closer to Turkey in corner duration and speed than Bahrain. I predict:

Brawn
Red Bull

Toyota

Ferrari
Williams
BMW
McLaren
Renault

STR

Force India

Agree very much with that list, except that Alonso will be ahead of McLaren. This track will be McLaren's worst track of the season. Ferrari vs Nico will be a good fight. You would think STR would be better suited, considering the chassis but for one reason or another, they aren't very quick even in the fast corners.

You've misplaced the Renault. That car likes high speed corners and will get updates.

McLaren may struggle to beat even STR and Force India. :(

Personally I think it could be very close between Toyota and Ferrari. I am not sure it will be hot enough for the Toyotas, and Massa went pretty good in Barcelona until he ran out of fuel. Rosberg may also be mixing it up with them...
