Mike Beckwith drove in various national (UK) F3 races from 1966-1969. However, I've received an e-mail from a family member of his who said that he had a DNF in the Oulton Park Gold Cup in either 1968 or 1969 (and that he drove an F1 car), but I am unable to confirm this - he doesn't appear in any of the results for those two years. Has he been missed out from the usual sources (can anyone check the Autosport reports of those races)? Or something else?

Mike was fantastically successful with a Normand-backed Lotus 23 in 1962, and ran the Normand team of such cars through 1963, with Tony Hegbourne and occasional Jimmy Clark as his team-mates. He was certainly given a BRP Lotus 24 drive in the Oulton Park Gold Cup but screwed-up and crashed it at Old Hall Corner. With Normand's backing he then ran a Formula 2 programme with rather poor Coopers into 1964. From memory didn't Tony win a minor round at AVUS or somesuch - no time to check just now.

Hi Darren

I happen to have my '69 Gold Cup programme immediately to hand and there is no entry for Mike Beckwith in the Gold Cup race. The "To be nominated" drivers in the entry list can be eliminated too, as I have them carefully listed as Jackie Oliver, Andrea de Adamich and Trevor Taylor.

My '68 programme is "filed" somewhere, I shall seek it out if my more learned brethren fail to come up with any info.

Mike did run in Formula 3 in 1968 with Racing Team Holland in the highly unusual Tecno-Daf's with Variomatic transmission. This event was held on 26th October, 1968 at Oulton Park.

Mike ran in the 1963 Gold Cup, seemingly his one and only ever F1 start..............

I've just checked my 68 Gold Cup programme (two shillings and sixpence), and Mike Beckwith wasn't entered in any of the races that day.

With reference to DCN's coment about Mike possibly having won an F2 race in '64, his team-mate did win at Avus where Mike finished 8th http://www.formula2.net/F264_11.htm and the team also did well at Vallelunga http://www.formula2.net/F264_20.htm
He regularly finished in the top 10 that year
In 1965 he finished 2nd at Snetterton http://www.formula2...._Snetterton.htm and, again, took a fistful of top-ten finishes that year with a Normand Brabham.
