Did anyone go to The Glen the last weekend for the Vintage GP races? Last year we had a bunch of photos posted here on TNF. Would love to see some of this year's shots, especially from the F5000 race http://www.a2zracer.com/page112.html Tony a2z had a great weekend.

Thanks

Here's a few from last weekend.

On Saturday the #17 Theodore TY02 F5000 crash into the rails, exiting the Toe of the Boot with heavy damage to the left side and rear. Fortunately the driver wasn't hurt, but the car sure was. The above photo was taken just seconds before the crash.

The drive was understandably upset, throwing parts of the car after the wreck.

A number of drivers from the original F5000 series where on hand Saturday for answering questions and signing autographs’s. From front to rear: With his back to camera, Eric Haga driving his original 1970 Lola T190 this weekend. Sitting next to Eric is Ron Goldleaf, driving his one off 1968 WRE Shadow, Leonard Miller is next, who was team manager with “Black American Racers Association, Inc.” in the 1970's, Benny Scott was his driver(Lola T332). Next is Davey Jordan, who drove F5000 & sports cars at Sebring and Daytona. Next to Davey is George Wintersteen, if you haven't watch James Garner’s movie “The Racing Scene” George’s massive shunt in his Lola T142 Formula A car was caught on film at St Jovite, Québec in 1969. George told me it took 30 years before he could watch it. Sitting next to George is Bobby Brown, racing his Brabham BT35 Formula B at the glen this weekend. Next is Gus Hutchison, President of H.R.E.

Front to back: Under the hat is Tony “a2z” Adamowicz 1969 US Champion, here competing in his original 1969 Eagle. Graham McRae, Tasman Series Champion in 1971, 1972, 1973 and US Champion in 1972. Bob McKee is next, builder of McKee A/Formula 5000 cars.

Mark,
You take excellent photos. But ...... they would be so much more enjoyable with explanatory captions.

Did this contraption actually race in F5000 back in the day? It looks like a very bad engine transplant has taken place!

I agree. I never heard of such a car running in F-5000 back in the day.

As I understand, there were two 1982 Theodore TY02s built: TY02/1 and TY02/2. Between the both of them, they actually raced in F1 and later in the Can-Am series. I know one is is raced these days in the F5000 historic series (as in the photo above).

As others have indicated this is a 'hybrid' machine - originally an F1 chassis, definitely of later vintage than original F5000 machines. The large mid car fuel tank gives it away - a design that came after F5000 ended.

And my thanks to Steve Bedford in particular for his very full album of photo's - I love #208 - Graham McRae with a grin to beat all blues, and #304 - a McRae GM1 being hustled over the kerbs.

I know it's lame not to list captions with photos (being lazy on my part). I spent some hours today going over entry list and race results for the Vintage weekend. Hopefully I have the correct information with each photo (there were some instances where I couldn't find any info on a few cars).

Next we will have a listing of all TheodoreF 5000 cars on Wikipedia.
I can only speak for myself David ,and yes i still race cars and kart just for the enjoyment and pay my own way.I started racing back in the 60,s and having aged gracefully and do not feel the need to buy the DREAMS and get a blood rush in my late years to prove myself along with a open chequebook as some do.
History keep it,s own record you can,t recreate it no matter what.
