I just went back on to the Italian Porsche website "PorscheMania Forum" where I just found the first photo, and tried to see if I could find anything else on this Donohue/917-30 prototype. I put in "917/30" into the search engine, and found another topic with these photos!
These are best I've ever seen (and I've been looking for a long time). Top 2 photos show it with the short tail, second 2 are of the extended/cobbled up long tail. Hopefully there might still be someone out there who might have a few more (I need to see if the metal area around the doors were made since the chassis they were testing had several extension pieces to alter chassis wheelbase).

Here's is another photo of it from another photo session.
It has the rear wing in a much shallower/shorter configuration than even on the 1972 917/10.
Notice how much they cleaned up the rear end of the car behind the firewall in the engine compartment of the actual 917/30 race car;

Here is a "boomerrang" rear wing setup tried on a Tyrrell 012 in 1983.
Here is a wing tested on an Arrows (I think) at Monoco in 2001. It wasn't allowed to be used in the race.

Here is someone's idea of what a new Ferrari Le Mans prototype car could look like (wicked!!!)....

The Ferrari Le Mans model's cockpit dimensions surely would not comply with current regs, would they? But some very nice ideas there.

Probably shortly after the "wing idea" was announced on someone's shoppapiccie circuit.First time I have ever seen an F1 car with the Mosely Down Wash rear wings, Rubens in an F1 Ferrari does anyone know when or where this test occurred ?

I'd love to see a photo of this from the side, if anyone has it... The 312P has always been one of my favorite sports cars of all time, and I always thought it'd be even sexier with a longtail like the 512S that followed it.

As pointed out, that's definitely a photoshop job. I remember seeing that pic attached to some website's reports about the proposed idea, along with CFD airflow analysis and maybe even a windtunnel model, but Ferrari definitely never built a car with the actual wing.

As far as I can see it's actually the regular tail section, only perhaps looks a bit longer from this angle and with the top section added. There have been quite a few pics of this early coupe version from the side and even from the rear in various publications, for example "Ferrari Catalogue Raisonnee".

Either late '82 or early '83, right after the ban on wing cars and mandatory flat bottoms on the cars. Whatever may generate downforce was tried. Here an Arrows.
No idea where but I dare to take a guess on Paul Ricard

IIRC airscoop looks like one Ensign tried back in the spring 1976, when the new rules cut the airbox minimum height. Being painted in red looks like the proof, in 1976 that was the car colour, when Amon drove it.

My guess is that they were trying to understand how the car's aerodynamics worked. The high wing, at fairly low angle of incidence, would provide predictable downforce over the front wheels. Downforce from that wing wouldn't move forwards or backwards -- so if underfloor or body wing bodywork affected the car (e.g. porpoising), impact might be more evident.
I reckon it would be a tricky test to evaluate.

Do not remember that but here is a BT51

Does anyone have pix to show the original BT 46 running in this mode ?
Seven years after asking no response, but here is a pic of John Watson about to step into the surface cooled BT46 suggesting it did run, but for how long ?

What seems particularly odd about the camo BT52 is that Nelson appears to have got some of the camo paint on his helmet.

Looking rather like a Channel Islands sand racer Gilles in a T4 or T5 sans any bodywork except a nose cone.
