I have asked about the Allard amongst acquaintances 'who know' awaiting responses Pete.

The story is the Cognac was purchased at the weekend, I am afraid I did not write down the drivers name but Tim Murray might have a better memory than me. I have do not recall seeing any period pics of the car so I can't comment on any differences.

Look forward to hearing about the "Allard" and the Cognac- from whence does it gulp its air these days?

Sorry - never caught his name. At the time we were talking to him he was very concerned that his new toy had started leaking oil, so it didn't seem a good idea to take up too much of his time.

Thanks for the pic Pete, when Tim told me the Cognac dated back to 1925 I remember thinking the 'air box' must have been a very example









No joy with Colin Warnes of the Allard Register about the J2 I will ask friends involved with the VSSCA scene around Pocono to see if the car is familiar over there.

As far as the bodywork is concerned The CoGNac was rebuilt as a single seater in the 1970s by Ron Footitt. It has been tidied up considerably since.
The car started life in the 1930s as a 2 seater with a modified Amilcar body. The 1925 date is somewhat artitrary and I believe refers to the date of the AC engine. The GN chassis is probably a few years older than that.

I was hoping to get down next week, but I think work is going to prevent me and I may not be out to play until at least mid September. This is very frustrating as I've just invested in a bigger lens and I'm itching to try it out!

Yes, indeed; but this was at the time when there was a big push to make BMWs fitted with Bristol engines and/or gearboxes ineligible for VSCC events (the late Guy Smith's 328 and my brother's 327/80 being a couple so penalised). And yet the Bristol upgrades were as nothing to the post-war developments of the AC engine. But Ron Footit had influential friends in high places, and Guy Smith didn't...

Weather looks promising aswell - should be good guys!! Personally, I will be going down the M6 as far as Redditch via Congleton & Tipton back up the M42 (maybe via Donington cafe early afternoon) and home to load up for Thursday . What fun !! Would much rather be at Mallory Park though ...can`t wait for Masters weekend at DP in 3 weeks time .

There was a reddish-orange BT6 present. I didn't notice the rapid beard climb in, but he might have done - there seemed to be at least two mandatory driver changes per session within the Formula Junior community. Meanwhile...

Not sure who was driving this Escort Mk2...


...but Andrew Willis handled an Elva as though it were an Escort Mk2.

Nice to see that the Cognac Special has been painted to match some of the Mallory furniture.

Anyone get any of Van Diemen RF82 FF2000 number 19? Wasnt a great day for testing a single seater, too many mixed speed cars on a short track. I was running an engine in through session one and two but gave up and pulled off half way through trying to get some quick laps in session three as there wasnt any clear laps to be had.

The Gropa was Martyn Denley's car originally (a name I simply could not remember on Wednesday), and was also orange. It is 71-09 and was raced by him in 1971 and 2. Hopefully we will get to bring it back a little better sorted and a little better presented!
