Great pictures Giraffe, The black Clubmans car No.11 is my old car.

A Centaur Mk 14B that Mike Brett & I built in 1974 and raced in Formula 1200 in 74 & 75.
We then swapped it for a Brabham BT15, The Centaur then spent many years on the Hills in Yorkshire where current owner & Co. designer of the Mk14 David Childs found it.

David's son has rebuilt it to Classic Clubman A Class spec. I spoke to David at HSCC Snetterton meeting in June, were David was having his first race in the car.
I was very pleased & surprised when David told me that it was our old chassis, it looks better now than it did 39 years ago when new.

Should be able to go along to Mallory tomorrow (Wednesday 11th).   Anyone else going?   Any pre-Revival testing likely?

I should be there as the weather looks ok for the morning . A lot of pre- revival testing has been going on over the past few weeks. Fraser Nash, Tojerio Bristol, Cooper Climax T45 & Riley all there last week.

I am due to breakfast with racer Ady Stimpson who is recovering from his near fatal road accident & subsequent heart attack. I wonder if a Mallory fry-up will finish him off?

Just spent an enjoyable and sunny morning at Mallory and managed to meet up with Giraffe, Ady, Alansart, and Blacklab.   I will post some pics of today (and the 28th August) when I get a moment.  Simon Hadfield was out in the Maserati 250F (2524) and Barrie Williams and John Haugland in the latter's Lotus Cortina.   Both Goodwood bound.

At one point, three TNFrs (me included) were in deep discussion about the weather...for several minutes!! ;)   Probably not a first...

I managed to catch Simon Hadfield in the 250F before it was packed away in the transporter. The roll hoop and silencer, although not original, are obviously a sign of the times. Simon is always good to watch at the hairpin no matter what car he's driving!

Stuart Kestenbaum has driven so many laps of Mallory Park that he can take the hairpin with his eyes closed!!!!

Barrie Williams had a few laps in the Lotus Cortina before John Haugland took it over, at which point it decided to fire on various unwanted cylinders.

I hadn't realised that Whizzo was an A2 driver. My wife loves hers and my daughters are desperate to get hold of it when she's not using it!

On second thoughts, from what I can see of the wheels, they do look Elva-ish.

Nice to meet all the TNFers this morning.

Later in the morning someone showed me a copy of todays "motorcycle news" ( I think!).  In it was an article about Mallory Park. It claimed that Chris Meek had bought 18 acres of farm land behind the Stebbe straight & was proposing changing the track layout in an effort to address some of the Noise complaints. The article showed a track configuration that included a hairpin along the Stebbe straight that led to a track extension up the hillside towards the quarry, and away from the village. The track meandered along the hillside & re-joined the existing track at the entrance to the esses. It looks as this proposal would omit the existing Mallory hairpin.

I have been searching the web for any further details. I hope this is not a "Donington F1" type of scheme. With the investment required , if this is true, I think it would require quite a full calendar of events to generate sufficient income.

Nice to meet you to.

I've heard this reported elsewhere today but have not seen the the layout.

Chris Meek saved the circuit back in the 80's and hopefully he'll do the same again. Extending the circuit (sideways?) would possibly bring back the Superbikes so I can see the logic.

The old place looked a little tatty today so I hope that something positive will bring it back to it's former glory.

I think it's Ralf Emmerling's Elva Mk5 - unless he has sold it recently

Certainly not Ralf's regular helmet though.

Looks fine to me, and the colour scheme is right apart from the lack of BMW logos - only thing is the nose is either drooping or has been fitted to run lower (heaven forbid modern aero tweeks should be applied to historics...  :smoking:   )

The RH side, just in front of the wheel, looks a bit out of shape.

9731865834_32cd8bd9d8_c.jpg

The red looks a bit too "orange" to me. I seem to remember it being a deeper red similar to the STP sticker.

It was being driven quite quickly which was good to see.

I did not see Jumper drive the 732 in the flesh in period, but this linked pic of Jumper suggests the car may have been lighter than it appeared in most contemporary photo's.

Rollbar and Splitter look completely different. In fact the modern moulded look is more like a kit car style. I bet it is fun to drive all the same ;)

Wasn't the rear wing in plain aluminium finish in period, rather than light blue?  And the radiator opening looks too big, in period pics it looks a narrower slot, but possibly that changed to allow more cooling.

How strange that a search for "Mallory" did not throw this up! :well:

The search engine that came with the new software package is about as useful as a pile of wombat faeces. Among its major failings it refuses to recognise all posts made from the date of the software upgrade in mid-August until the last few days. As 'the last few days' are moving forward all the time, there is an ever-increasing black hole into which many posts, and now some complete threads, are vanishing without trace. The tech people claim to be working on sorting out the search engine's failings, but it's been seven weeks now since the upgrade, and nothing has improved. :well:

I spent some time with John Chatham here in Vancouver a couple of days ago-he was shaken by Denis Welch death and was present at Silverstone at the time of Denis accident.  John C I think will be with us for a while-at least I certainly hope so!  Lovely guy.

The Elva Mk 5 pictured above was for sale at Fantasy Junction a couple of years ago wasn't it?  I thought it was a great deal and was tempted.
