Did anyone else notice the flags were facing the wrong way round yesterday on the podium?

The Union Jack part of the Australian National Flag was on the left when it should have been on the right when presented on its side!

Well for starters our flag is a national embaressment, why the hell we have someone else's flag in the corner of our own beggars belief. Not to mention it looks like NZ's, Hong Kong's and a few other commonwealth countries.

I don't care if it's a ****ing Kangaroo with a VB in it's pouch, someone please ... change the ****ing flag.

Several times over the last few seasons, the Union Flag has been flown upside down. It would be nice if they could get it right.

The German Flag was also incorrect!

The black band is on the top when displayed horizontally and should be presented on the right when displayed vertically. Yesterday it was Black first.

I'm not too sure about the SPANISH flag as yesterday it featured a coat of arms which would have been displayed back to front in its OWN country!

Anyone able to provide an image of yesterdays podium to prove my point?

Just out of curiosity, for what reason would I be in a Kangaroo's pouch :|

I think it's obvious what happened. The guys hanging the flags did it from the far side as you look in that picture. Simple mistake. If you were facing the track they would look correct.

I think Spaniards were so suprised with Mark's results, they had to remove German flag (already hanging there) and in last minute rush all went haywire.

I didn't think Australians hated their flag. As a Canadian I think our old flag with the Union Jack looks way cooler :smoking:.

Just to nitpick, it's not called Union Jack, but Union Flag, the former is a naval-term if memory serves me right, and it also served as a call for help if it was flown upside-down. It's hard to see at first, but there's a subtle difference in the white lines that if it's flown upside-down would be wrong.

Yeah it took me ages to realise that the St. Patrick's cross (red on white diagonals) is not centred on the St. Andrew's (White on blue diagonals), and couldn't understand how there was a "right way up". The way I remember is that the reds appear to pinwheel down the flagpole.

Perhaps a really dumb question, but how can the Union Jack be wrong?

And in Malaysia, it's not correct as Webber has a German flag and Rosberg an Australian.

The flag is called Union Flag, not Jack, and look here how it can be flown upside-down:

Union Jack - check this image http://en.wikipedia....ted_Kingdom.svg
Look at the red diagonally lines - notice the top line is different to the bottom. Also the white Diagonal lines feature different weights.

to compare the difference visit this page http://en.wikipedia....ns_for_flag_use

Traditionally, flying a flag upside down is understood as a distress signal.

Malaysia - I did not spot that one! Thats not good!!!

here in Canada we switched over to our own flag in 1965. prior to that we had the UK Union flag in the corner. but during the Suez crisis where Canada was doing peacekeeping duties having the UK flag in the corner caused problems with the Egyptians as the UK was one of the parties in the dispute. french Canadians weren't to happy with it either.

so you could change your flag also and end up like us with a piece of shrubbery in the middle instead!

I know. But the term 'Jack' today should be considered slang, or something that was used in maritime conditions. The fact that King Charles named the flag 'Union Flag' in 1634 still stands and have never been officially changed.

Yeah, the Australian Flag is an easy one to spot (if you're Australian).
I find this surprising that it's been going on for so long, considering how absolutely fanatical Bernie is about getting everything picture perfect and lined up straight in every way.
And secondly, are we to understand that the exact same person has been travelling around the world setting up all the flags at all the races? Its not a job that they trust to local officials to do right?

They've had all the three flags wrong? Or just one of two?

It surprises me that they got the Australian and the British flag wrong in Britain.

Could some mod get right "Spanish" in the thread's name? It feels apropiate on this thread. :D
