With great regret, I hear that Trev Taylor died last night, peacefully, in his sleep...he had been suffering from cancer for some time

Good man...great fun...one the lads. Ced Selzer - Team Lotus mechanic with Trev 1961-63 - recalls him with great respect, and affection ... Not least for high jinks in later years, sports car racing with Chris Craft and other larrikins in, for example, the Nordic Cup series. Raise a glass or two to the good-looking Yorkshireman in the yellow crash helmet and overalls...

What a shame, he was, as has been said, a lovely bloke. I remember him showing me a watch (given to him by Jim Clark) and joking that it was always fast, "well it would be wouldn't it!!??"

That´s sad. I watched Trevor win the Natal GP at Westmede, South Africa, when he was Jimmy Clark´s team mate at Lotus. I was most impressed with him, but I feel his career wasn´t blessed with the sort of good fortune needed to succeed at the highest level.
RIP TT. Gone but never forgotten.

My interest in motor racing started in the early 1960's so he was one of my heroes. Too many accidents - none his fault - robbed his confidence & cost him his job at Team Lotus if I remember correctly.

I met him at Coy's Historic Festival at Silverstone about 10 years ago & enjoyed talking to him. I took this picture of Trevor in Cedric's re-constructed Lotus 25.

Very sorry to read this.

Due to being relatively young at the time tended to see more of his Aurora Gear Racing exploits
rather than the Team Lotus F1 stuff.

It could not have been easy being Jim Clark's team mate.

Rest in Peace.

My own thoughts, too. I recall seeing him from the early days at Oulton, often under-rated, like Peter Arundell, but singularly talented and fast. I was fortunate enough to meet him and Anita, hero and heroine, at Coys in the 90s, a lovely bloke and Anita remained perfect .

Away from Team Lotus, please remember him in the very wet Silverstone Intl Sports car race in March 65 in the little Aurora, a masterclass in wet driving, when many of the big names fell off the Tarmac.
with great sadness

Tremendous shame - one of the better drivers of his era who didn't quite garner the success he should've done.

Too young to remember him driving at his peak, but I always had a soft spot for him when I heard the stories about him.

A sad day - too many of the 60's heroes are going relatively young before the 50's stalwarts.

RIP

By coincidence I picked at random, a F1 Racing to read on a train journey today and it was the May 1998 edition where there was aticle, perhaps about said watch, but in any case a watch given to him by Jim Clark after the 1962 Mexican GP and that we was having to sell it due to financial constraints.

I am saddened by the news. I always thought of Trevor as being the one Lotus driver that got close to matching Clark on track. My earliest memories are from the early Sixties when it was Clark & Taylor to the fore.

After suffering in recent times he has now found peace.

I share your thoughts - This sad news made me find the programmes from the 1964 GP at Brands which was my first sight of Trevor when he teamed up with Innes Ireland in the BRP-BRMs.

So few of the grid are still with us - Jack Brabham, Dan Gurney, Chris Amon and John Surtees along with Dick Attwood who was a non-starter but did practice, I think.

RIP Trevor.

Very sad. I knew he was unwell but all the same it is still a shock. One of motor racing's great characters, along with Innes Ireland but also very quick, as witnessed by his joint FJ title with Jim Clark and the speed he displayed in his early days as an F1 driver for Team Lotus.

RIP Trevor.

Never knew him personally, and was too young to have seen him race, but was lucky enough to meet him at the 2000 Coys Festival at Silverstone. I caught his attention when he was autographing a photo of him in a BRP and he said to the guy he was signing it for "Is that the one I finished second to Graham Hill in?" I quietly piped up "It was Holland '62 wasn't it?" which seemed to take him by surprise. He then went on to chat with me for ages, including one story about Innes Ireland pushing him into a fountain as retribution for taking his Lotus seat!

I was only 17 at the time and despite it being the first time I ever met my childhood hero (Nigel Mansell), I think it was that incident above all else that made my weekend.

R.I.P. :(

Wondeful shots, Luc, thank you. I have not seen the Yorkshire county white rose motif shown on his helmet shown many times. Good to see such an illuminating shot of Jim Endruweit, who is not in the best of health, I hear.

I am very saddened to learn (today) that Trevor Taylor has died a few days ago, my sincere condulences go out to his family

yes, he seemed to have bad luck for some time - all these terrible accidents he had, I remember a quote of Jim Clark when got asked about his former team mate Taylor, so if I remember correctly Jimmy said something like that he thought Trevor was an extreme good driver but had lost a bit self confidence after all his terrible accidents he had. So obviously Clark thought that those accidents took the edge of Trevor Taylor for some time.
Well, that`s what I read - this must not be true, it`s so long ago.

The last time I saw Trever Taylor on TV: I remember I saw him in a documentation but for the life of me I can`t recall which one it was, the docu was not that old. He was so good looking, grey hair but damn good looking, that`s what remember very well. I maybe find the docu if I search for it in my collection.
Sad sad to hear, sad news ... ):

I met Trevor a couple of times at the old Coys festivals, he always took time for chat with fans. As has already been stated great bloke.
I remember him saying he was once told he was an unlucky driver,to which he replied " I wouldn't say that I was once shown a photo some years ago of a drivers briefing and realised I was the only one on the photo still alive"

Doug, do we know if Trevor died at home, or in hospital? Sorry to ask, but there are those of us who like to know death places.

Gergely and others - the most recent interview with him was the Yorkshire Post with a photo of him from 2010. Apparently he had been suffering from cancer since 2009.
