Given the ports on it I would say hydraulic. I think its subtle way of telling us they are definitely going Hydraulic for 2011
Looks like a mechanical Flybrid KERS, so the fluid connections are for the hydraulic control of the variable gear drive "transmission" that connects the flywheel to the rear wheel drive, and maybe for oil supply - looks to be an oil pump intergrated (for bearing and transmission lubrication ?). This system should be connected to the car mechanically.
Don't think there is an intermediate hydraulic drive as this would need to be reversible between motor/pump at both the flywheel and the tranmission ends - too complex, I would think.

LIvery will stay the same. Chrome is a Mclaren color and Vodafone is no more than live red.
It most likely will, but its not like chrome is an all time historical colour for McLaren...
Id love to see a black and red 26 but it wont happen.

He just linked the image with a question.Scarbs has confirmed this as a hydraulic device.
Ok... one last thing before xmas, prototype hydraulic flywheel KERS?
ATM_Andy wouldn't reveal confidental intellectual properties of McLaren, neither of MB-HPE. That would be the end of his job. He's agreed to NDA.
That image what he has posted was public domain or non confidental property.

I actually doubt ATM_Andy would be posting anything that would indicate the direction of Mclaren's MP4-26 development.

I guess more black than on the MP4-25 this year , but still with red and chromeIt most likely will, but its not like chrome is an all time historical colour for McLaren...

An entirely black and red car would be too different from the colour scheme with wich Mclaren was identifyed for the last decade.
+ a too dark car is difficult to see at wet races and night races
+ the chrome red black is simply the best colour scheme on the grid.

Anthracite/chrome /Red
I sure hope, he is referencing the McLaren livery colours, but he would not tell me, he just said, All will be revealedsoon enough.
I apologise in advance for if i have jumped the gun and this has nothing to do with this thread, but it just ends up he has bought his mrs some split rim alloys with red center caps for her new Corrado :/

I hope it'll be true.
Surely the new car's new forms would make the look refreshed visually, even if the livery would be just like it was, but with a newer livery it would be even better.

I think McLaren will be very strong next year. There is no reason to suspect otherwise. They have a better balanced driver pairing than Red Bull or Ferrari. The only thing to keep an eye on is that the loss of Mercedes’ enormous financial support will surely be felt a year on from their separation. But McLaren have always seemed to be able to find money and renewing the Vodafone sponsorship deal was very important.

Anthracite? Sounds very interesting. In deed, that's 'the black' which could fit to the Chrome too. It's shiny 'black diamond'. Simple blacks couldn't go that well with the shiny Chrome.
I hope it'll be true.
Surely the new car's new forms would make the look refreshed visually, even if the livery would be just like it was, but with a newer livery it would be even better.
I'd have thought anthracite would be a very dark matte grey, like the trainers ashnathan has posted.
That would go with a 'black' chrome.
I'm not too bothered about liveries normally but those with the red sound pretty good.

Anthracite can refer to a lot of shades, but in general it means something shiny darker silverish-blackish thing.I'd have thought anthracite would be a very dark matte grey, like the trainers ashnathan has posted.
That would go with a 'black' chrome.
I'm not too bothered about liveries normally but those with the red sound pretty good.
For example this wheel rim can be called anthracite (but also with more general names):
http://hunnylander.f.../anthracite.jpg
Then there's graphite grey to choose for the MP4-12C, you can call it anthracite.
This colour can be called anthracite, rim too:
http://www.automobil...heel-set-03.jpg
And even if the anthracite rumour is true, it could be something light and replace the current chrome (so in practice it would be a bit darker shiny silver) or added just a minor complementer to the chrome.
I just hope at least the current livery will be refreshed somehow.

too much anthracite would make the car look, dull, grey and crude IMO

I can assure you, even if McLaren would decide to use similar colour [as a minor shiny black to complement the too much chrome], it would be ten times more shiny.it could look like this... http://www.f1-site.c...aper-2010-7.jpg

Some of us would like to see some more black on the new car.Similar to the effect under these lights?
http://imgs.blackfal...12040012673.jpg
Currently the chrome makes the car kind of a car-formed mirror, because it's so shiny and reflecting. So it's not really a colour but the reflecting of the surrounding. E.g. the upper side of the car is many times blue, because reflecting the blue sky.
Personally I like this fancy chrome, but the design gets boring, because every year the same.
Then we saw the new 2011 team clothes which are black. Even currently there's black in the car, but I'd like to increase the size of black areas.
Anthracit came into the picture from what some source from Woking suggests, as shiny black or darker silver, because of the very high finish chrome wouldn't fit well with a matte or simple black, so the anthracite+chrome is like a shiny, reflecting variation of the black+white.
When you look at the Hispania car on high resolution images it looks nice, but on SD TV it comes across as simple grey. Maybe they should use a complementer colour or make it more shiny.
This is an example from an era when the silver was more silver and less chrome, less mirrorish:
http://upload.wikime...edes_MP4-12.jpg
Now imagine something similar current McLaren, replace the silver with the current chrome, add metallic shine to black (call it anthracite then) and put on the white sponsor banner the red Vodafone. I was thinking about such thing when I read about the anthracite-chrome-red theme (rumour/scoop).
So simply, for me, the anthracite-chrome-red means black-silver-red, just with shiny metallic finishes.

I also think that if the team wanted to incorporate some black it would be in the form of the old West livery, with a more contemporary twist. in the very same way you have explained.
Depending on the implementation it can even looks too much like 2010's Penskes: http://farm5.static....a1faa6b11_o.jpg If the white is replaced by silver/chrome.
Or just like Team Impul from F-Nippon. http://upload.wikime...i_(May)_FP2.jpg
Both teams have in common with McLaren the Mobil1 brand stamped on their cars.
My opinion is that a darker chrome is pointless, its too similar to what is now. and if its dark enough to make a difference it will made the car look like a HRT.
I bet that they'll keep their current livery, but if they're are keen on changing it they will do something completely different.
All those propositions here aren't exactly inspired and I'd expect more from the team.
