That would give Vettel the championship as long as Alonso scores 10 points or less as he'll have one more win than Webber. Oh crap.

Webber will win it with a 1-2 for RBR
This.
I really can't see Ferrari topping Red Bulls on outright pace at Abu Dhabi.

And nothing can go wrong for RB? I doubt they will win 2 races in a row with such a dominating style.This.

Alonso will probably win the race, but Webber will win the championship.
Can't happen.

The way I see it:
1) Red Bulls are fastest.
2) Vettel seems to have the edge on Webber.
3) Currently Alonso seems marginally faster than the McLarens.
What this adds up to, barring surprises is another Red Bull 1 - 2 in Abu Dhabi - if they want to be WDC then Vettel will have to give over.

How many back to back 1-2's have RB had this year?
NONE!
And I doubt Alonso will finish lower than 3rd as the Mclarens arent quick enough.
#15
Posted 07 November 2010 - 18:26
RBR 1-2 with Alonso 3rd or 4th and enough points to win WDC. Or Alonso's engine finally blows and Vettel wins giving him the title based on wins over Mark.

Alonso if 1st or 2nd
Webber if 1st + Alonso 3rd
Vettel if 1st + Alonso 5th
Hamilton if 1st + Alonso 11th + Webber 6th + Vettel 3rd

I wonder what would be Ferrari's reaction if they lose the championship in the last race after Vettel gets a message saying that Webber is faster than him
Acceptance.
#19
Posted 07 November 2010 - 18:59
This would be a better reaction:Acceptance.
I would actually laugh my ass off if Alonso would be 20-30s behind and decided to pull over after they had crossed the line in swapped positions. I mean he wouldn't loose anything but Vettel would probably decide to kill someone on the pitwall

But then Alonso grinds to a halt within sight of the line for some reason and ends up classified 9th or whatever.
Vettel will have been denied the title.
What a tough call.

But of course a lot of unexpected things can happen, but on sheer pace I really can't see anyone challenging Red Bull. There were like what, 0.5 seconds faster in the race on 1:15 laps?

I think the only question marks are the reliability of Alonso's engines and the possibility of the Red Bull drivers being involved in accidents. Both Webber and Vettel this year have shown a habit for finding ways to hit championships rivals in high-pressure situations, and I think that neither one of them will race clean with each other, if it comes down to a fight amongst themselves.

So long as Alonso's engine doesn't blow, I can't see him finishing lower than 3rd. The McLarens just don't seem to have the absolute pace necessary to contend, and I think Vettel is slightly quicker than Mark, and will win the race (because I don't care what Red Bull says, I know Vettel will have no intention of yielding for a teammate).

Why? Drivers have repeatedly shown that what they say to the press has little to do with what they will do on the track. Unless it's the last lap, and it's Vettel, Webber, Alonso with Alonso clearly not at risk of a DNF, I can't see Vettel being willing to consider a request to yield to Webber, as in just about any other scenario, he would still have a shot at the title.Prepare yourself for a huge disappointment then.

If Vettel is leading the race, he will have a chance to win the WDC until the finish line as Alonso could have a DNF. I do not think Vettel will let Webber through.

Vet has apparently said he will do what he can to make sure a Red Bull driver wins the title
Webber to be WDC.
Yeah, can imagine Rocky on the radio going 'Sebastian, you know what to do'

If it's vettel - webber - alonso on the last lap then he'll move over, what's he got to gain by not doing so?
Although if I was alonso and in 3rd I'd get the team to start sending me panicked messages about the state of the engine and back off so the gap between him and vettel is as big as possible!

Well its pretty straight forward really if Webber is running in 2nd and Alonso 3rd near the closing laps of Abu Dhabi that would put Vettel out of contention unless Alonso DNFs in those laps. In which case hthe team will probably tell him over radio that Alonso is 3rd which then he will know to let Webber through to prevent Alonso taking the title. Even if vettel is the favourite at Red Bull the team would be seriously angry at him if he delibertaley did not give his position to Webber to take the WDC.

Then, one lap later, Alonso's car will break down with an enormous pillar of smoke.
Vettel will be completely berserk trying to overtake Webber. In the following struggle, both will be out of the race, giving Hamilton the race and the WDC

They will leave it to Vettel. To be honest if I was Webber I would want assurances from the team that this happens much sooner in the race. There will be no repercussions for Vettel's long term future if he does not yield. The higher ups drink Vettel Kool Aid.
If by the predetermined part of the race, say the pit stops or failing that just after the pit stops Red Bull don't play ball Webber should run his engine at maximum so he runs out of fuel or merely 'run' off the track allowing Alonso to finish second.

The second time when Hamilton needed to finish the final race as 5th to get WDC (the first time being 2007), he managed to (re)gain that place in the second last corner and became champion.
By that, it's Alonso WDC 2010.;)
Anyway, this shows it's not over yet for either of the four guys remaining.

most probably both vettel & webber would agree to switch backTen laps before the finish, Vettel willl be first, Webber second, Alonso 3rd and Hamilton 4th. At that moment, Vettel will be ordered to lower revs because his engine is too hot. He will obey and Webber will pass him for the victory.
Then, one lap later, Alonso's car will break down with an enormous pillar of smoke.
