Surely MGP will have a update timeline planned. They have been very controlled in progressively introducing updates. 100% sure that will continue during the season.
And slowly I am starting to believe the 1:21.2 was a very competitive time, regarding the response to it by other teams
It sure does look that way. And I feel excited about it because it means Schumi has a car that would enable him to dice with the Red Bulls and the Ferraris. And, I for one, would be cheering him all the way. I'm a McLaren fan through and through but with the state of things at the McLaren camp I'd be happy to see Schumi stop the Red juggernaut led by FA.
It's rather ironic that in the 2005 and 2006 seasons I supported Kimi and FA to stop the Red Baron but now I'd love to see the (Grey) baron stop the Ferraris.
Time has mellowed my hard feelings (though I respected his talent) towards Schumi and over the past year I found myself egging him to get to the podium. Looks like I wouldn't have to wait too long. If he can deliver his stellar performances of yester year I don't see why he can't be a real force in the hunt for the WDC.
Here's to MGP and Schumi

In Dutch or English?;)Would anyone be kind enough to translate these two quotes:-
Thank you
Schumi says after the final test in Barcelona visibly relieved: "The fact is: to take us seriously isn't all too wrong. My time (etc) was really not bad"
Mercedes isn't declined to prolong the contract with Schumi. "If Michael wants and we can win a "schwäbischen" prize (not sure what it means, probably just "Grand Prize" or something) - yes please", Norbert Haug told BILD.de
Edit: Look 2 posts down for a better translation

Mercedes wouldn't say no to a contract extension. "If Michael wants and we agree on a good deal (i.e. less money)- very gladly " said NH in Bild chat.

The quote says they wouldn't say no to prolonging his current contract (running til 2012).They are talking for 2012? Or after 2012? About Michael contract I mean. I was thinking that he have contract for 2012. They signed 3 year contract in 2010?

Here you can see the famous chicane that Michael miss twice, I guess. He just continue on the main track, not doing the chicane(which is not part of original track I guess).

What is Schumacher and Mercedes plans beyond 2012?Maybe he is a Ross Brawn-trainee?
#3068

For sure Nico is contender if Mercedes produce the goods. Yet, he's been much over-looked because most Mercedes fans are Schumi fans who will be content seeing Schumacher pick up podiums or even wins. Many seems to forget about Nico i think.Last year (as every year since 2006) he was outstanding in a bad car and if the W02 are a championship-contender he should fight for the WDC.

Many seems to forget about Nico
90% of the posters in this thread pretend he does not exist.
If he was under-performing against MS, I would understand the ignorance. But quite the contrary.
His 1:21.7 time without the use of the DRS (which brings 0,5-0.7 sec on a qualifying run) was a very good time.
I'm surely betting on Rosberg to lead the scoring tables again this year.

If Michael wins it would be sensational.

It's quite a simple logic really.
If Nico wins in the Mercedes it would be nice.
If Michael wins it would be sensational.
Take your pick
Or...
If Nico wins, Mercedes wins.
If Schumacher wins, Schumacher wins.
So what's better for Mercedes?
Edit: I would be really suprised to suddenly see Rosberg being beaten by Schumacher. I think Schumi will be closer this year... but as someone said on this thread, the Schumi-fans seem to forget Rosberg completely.

If Nico wins, Mercedes wins.
If Schumacher wins, Schumacher wins.
So what's better for Mercedes?
If Schumacher wins, Mercedes was able to give the old champ (with the highest-profile name in the contemporary history of F1) the equipment to win again.
What's better for Mercedes?

Who does Schumacher race for?
I think... for himself. But I do not know the guy, meaning: I've never met him or spoken to him. I have never even spoken to someone who talked to him.
So what do I know?

Do you think Mercedes will sign somebody who is driving for himself? I doubt that. And Michael is very well know like driver who is driving for himself only. Ask Ferrari.I think... for himself. My answer would be: a F1 team will hire anyone who will win. Aerton Senna drove for himself, always, that was obvious for any team that hired him. Hell, Gerhard Berger even admitted that Senna was AND his friend AND someone who tried to take the best equipment and personel from him when they were teammates.
Again, I do not know Michael Schumacher, and I find it very conceited to think that you can 'know' someone from some interviews and television footage. All I can say is that for Mercedes winning with Schumacher would put more emphasis on Schumacher and less on Mercedes.

Believe me if Michael wins , Mercedes will use situation very well and very much. You don't need to know the drivers personally, there is a lot of people talking/writing about them, what they are ,how the work and else.My answer would be: a F1 team will hire anyone who will win. "The updates I have seen are:
New sidepods
New engine cover
New floor
New diffuser
New bargeboards
New turning vanes on the side of the sidepods
New exhaust
New foils under the nose
New horizontal splitter under the nose
New brake ducts
New starter hole positioning
New on-board camera housing position
And a new front wing although the drivers seem to prefer the old one, and have gone back to it. So maybe it was not quite as bad as many (and me included) thought. Maybe the lack of pace of the Merc last year was not due to the FW but to the rest of the car.
Because right now they've changed everything BUT the FW and it seems quite quick... "

For starters, I didn't write that post for you, so I don't care what you are, or are not, keen about. A little self centered maybe? And secondly, we're supposed to think things are better because every observer said so and there is a very positive atmosphere surrounding the team. Compare the statements from MGP and the one from McLaren to see the difference.

How much would you say those qualifying laps, from which we're all supposed to think that things are now brilliant, contributed to their total amount of testing mileage this winter? At least McLaren aren't hiding their woes with a few low fuel qualifying laps as Merc have done and masking things by not doing any longer runs, and they could quite easily have done it to cheer people up.And secondly, we're supposed to think things are better because every observer said so and there is a very positive atmosphere surrounding the team. They did two race simulation when they were working on car reliability(in February Barcelona test). Now they were focused on performance of the car. Maybe they could do another race simulation on the last day, but you see what the weather was like? And as you see team didn't do anything with the purpose to cheer the fans up. They stick with the Plan as they say.I'm not interested in who you intended that post for, but you did post it on a public forum nonetheless. What is epic about it?

I just don't know why they chose to run on Saturday ,it was clear long before that it will be rainy day. But, I guess parts was not ready. But, in Friday they introduce only the new FW which didn't work well in the end. So they could easily start the test on 8th like other teams and not to lose one day of the tests. But ,maybe other new parts were also not ready for Tuesday.

The Mercedes had good TEST results. Let's see how much did it bring them, I don't think ALL the updates alltogether did have an ALL positive effect for the machine in terms of a full race length.
These Pirelli's... I mean ... they won't last long they say but they will surely wear off much much faster if one has to defend his position, or to attack in a race. Hmmm.
I believe Mercedes has more to win with McLaren than with Mercedes GP. I mean ... What if Mercedes could build a F1 car where even Rosberg would become WDC with? While Schumacher is also trying? ... A HELL of a great car would that be! (AND Team!!)

I think it's more that, as most of them have admitted at some point, they really don't know much of anything about Rosberg's career. Nico has a history of getting better in a good car. If MGP has produced a race winner...well.
Bradley Lord, ex- head of communications at Renault F1 and ex-forum poster (Bpl), who also had a brief stint at F1Racing mag., is now running the Mercedes-Benz Motorsport communications dept. Hope we will soon see his influence in bringing more openness in the way teams communicate with the fan base. They should start with the Merc GP website which sucks when it comes to usability.
THIS. They also need to rethink their Twitter strategy. There are plenty of better examples in F1 right now that they can learn from.

Tis is from the Barcelona test topic:
Mercedes race sim time looks very fine (and it would be better in friday with the new aero).
These are Barcelona test 1 race simulations. Not sure if they are useful because Mercedes and other teams developed the car further. Mercedes didn't run a race simulation with the fully upgraded car.
