Sadly, David E. Davis has died. I'm sure some forum members knew him personally, so I defer to their comments, except to say that he was a man for whom "nuance" had little place in writing or in living.

Condolences to the family.

I met him only once at the USGP at Watkins Glen in the '70s and I found him to be a very nice gentleman. RIP David.

As one who used to look forward to getting Car & Driver every month, I always appreciated his handiwork...

Eighty seems so young, doesn't it?

As one who used to look forward to getting Car & Driver every month, I always appreciated his handiwork...He was a "wordmaster", to be sure. His love for his subject and for the language always shone through

Eighty seems so young, doesn't it? It does now!

RIP David E. Davis
I have to admit that unlike Ray I did not wait for Car & Driver to come out for many years. Although David E. Davis was an interesting writer the rest of the magazine was not to my taste.

I also would like to say that it is a pity that it takes a death to bring David Kane back to the forum-we miss you David.

DED suffered prostate cancer some years ago. His unexpected recent death came after an operation to remove his cancerous bladder. The only reason I go into this tasteless detail is to remind each of you males over 50 to get a PSA blood test annually and watch the trend. The "digital" test is a waste of both time and dignity. The blood test is both painless and more effective, so Just Do It.
