According to Adrian Newey, they won't be joining F1. http://en.espnf1.com...tory/52832.html
This article actually confirms nothing, because the answer lies in the fact they moved to V6 Turbos.
As Newey says, the V6 is actually much more practical to package in the car than the V4 - so for all we know, Audi may have realised this and could have been quietly pushing for the V6 instead of the V4.
although it doesn't run true with their diesel program, I certainly think that Audi is still a possibility for F1. There has to be significance in the fact this has been announced a day after the F1 2014 engine regs.
“This is the decision of Porsche company, a decision in which Audi is not involved. Audi relishes the prospect of every strong new opponent at Le Mans and in the new FIA Sportscar World Championship. Porsche’s entry into the LMP1 class is evidence of the high level of attraction of sport prototypes”.
and this bit of PR answers approximately zero questions!
We'd also be foolish to forget Williams' ties with Porsche in recent years; they helped develop KERS for a factory backed hybrid 911 GT3.
