Oh dear. Shows how much I *thought* I knew. I hope that hasn't disqualified me from posting in TNF in the future. Echo that -very atmospheric (and not just because of the moisture). Those 500s must have felt at home - I somehow always thought of Cadwell as a mainly bike venue, but may have to adjust my preconceptions.

It is popular as a bike circuit but is also in my view the finest circuit in UK both to drive and to spectate at.Remember it was used regularly for F3 until the 80s and these days you can see anything from Tuscan V8s , historic( saloons , F2 and F3), Monoposto and VSCC meetings etc. If you have never been you really have a treat in store- trust me !

I agree with that.
Why would anyone want to park their business there anyway? It is seriously far from most places (which is part of its charm for us).

Sorry to disabuse you, Suzy, it's actually from the 1990s! A modern 'special' built in the spirit of inter-war specials by Richard Scaldwell using a 1919 GN chassis and a 1908 JAP V8 aero engine, and driven with equal spirit by its builder.

I believe that the owners (two of them) went touring in France in it a couple of years ago, along with friends in similar devices. Not sure what the gendarmes made of these things.

My French Bugatti friends, happily, for years have had no trouble with the gendarmerie when driving their cars without mudguards but there are now signs of some tightening-up of regulations in some regions. The same goes for speed cameras which the French were very slow to adopt.

I believe the first time the GN's JAP V8 went to France was when it powered the Willow's No.3 Airship "Cardiff City" across the channel, first time an airship accomplished the feat, and then circled the Eiffel Tower on New Years Eve 1910.

My wife and I are on vacation in France, currently in Eguisheim. I talked to some people from Germany, who are staying at a nearby hotel. They were driving a couple of MGAs. They said there is an event on Saturday at L'Anneau du Rhin in Biltzheim. I also saw what looked like an MGTC on a trailer. What event is this? Unfortunately, I won't be able to go as we will be on our way to Strasbourg on Saturday.

A RECORD-BREAKING 58 FIA MGBs WILL COMPETE IN THE OFFICIAL MGB50 CELEBRATION RACE AT MGLive! ON SATURDAY 23 JUNE

The MG Car Club's 62nd successive Silverstone meeting has attracted a mouth-watering grid of the world's best MGBs; competitors will contest for honours on the full GP circuit.
Supported by British Motor Heritage, the prestigious 50-minute race is for FIA-spec MGBs running on Dunlop Historic Tyres and includes a mandatory pit stop.
MGLive! is the world's largest MG event and attracts 20,000 enthusiasts from every corner of the globe. The MG Car Club's award-winning weekend begins a trilogy of high-profile MGB50 events in 2012; celebrations are set to continue at the Silverstone Classic (July) and at Blenheim Palace (September).
Off track, the MGLive! MGB50 street party will assume centre stage: thousands of examples of Abingdon's most famous export are anticipated to descend on Silverstone.
Notable cars competing in the MGLive! MGB50 celebration race include ex-works cars 6DBL, BRX854B, DRX256C, DRX255C, 2GLL and LBL591E, along with other historic period MGBs, including HGT576C, 665FXF, the WSM MGB and a Jacques Coune MGB Berlinette.
In another exciting development, former MG works driver Paddy Hopkirk will be on hand to present awards to the overall and category winners of the MGB50 Celebration Race. Later that evening, the popular Irishman will be Guest of Honour at the MG Car Club's annual Silverstone dinner in the Jimmy Brown Suite, where a host of former MG works drivers will also be in attendance.

Isn't it great to see that trees can still be allowed in close proximity to a racing circuit without distressing anyone? Cadwell proves it can be done. Shame it's too late for most other circuits.
