To my great regret, I have just been informed that Alan Mann passed away last night. Sincere condolences - as always - to his family and many friends, associates and admirers...

Sad news, he was the permanent backdrop to the '60s, with immaculate and winning cars...............

Sad news indeed. 75 (edited - thank you ReWind) is too early to go these days.
A timely, but rather short interview by Richard Heseltine in Motor Sport a couple of months ago. I wished it had been a lunch with Simon Taylor when I read it - that will never happen now.

RIP Alan Mann.

That's sad. :(

Never knew much about him beyond his very-tidy Can-Am car. RIP.

Totally agree; very sad news about one of the British Motorsport giants.

Tony Dron had been working with Alan on his autobiography which I understand is substantially complete. Covering Alan's career as a privateer with the ex-Ted Whiteaway HWM and then all the Ford period with wonderful cars and drivers, it should be published by Motor Racing Publications. By the way, spare a thought for MRP's proprietor, John Blunsden, who has suffered a stroke from which he is presently recovering in hospital. Apart from some right-side paralysis JB seems pretty much unimpaired, and he is typically determined to bounce back. Perhaps this ought to form a separate thread?

Sorry to hear that ...a bit late. RIP.

As someone asked in the second A.Mann thread about some history of his successes....I had the pleasure and honour to have multiple phone calls with him when he was not even interested in getting a call on motorsports history. Thanks to his secretary Shirley M. back then. To get his ear finally took me more than one year.

The result was this interview on http://www.ponysite.de/alanmann.htm and http://www.ponysite.de/alanmann_2.htm. Met him once shortly later at Goodwood, but just for a minute, as he was very busy in the pits.

Following I met John Grant, hix ex-mechanic, who is still aound these days in Holland and who shared lots of his memories at http://www.ponysite.de/john_grant.htm and who notified me.
"Alan was a great boss and a great guy and I will always feel it an honour to have known and worked for him.
With Kind Regards John Grant"

Anna Abel - Alans former secretary for a short time shared her memories, now living in France (which is an anecdote itself), because she was hired to do translations and keep contacts with the french journalists like B. Cahier and partners, while not being able to speek a word french, when she started.

A friend of mine Jeffry is planning a Tour de France winning Mustang (licenced DPK7B) tribute car, as it has never been found, after being driven by Skip Scott with the bubble hood alterations.
We all together traced the 3 (plus spare car) class winning TDF Mustangs and got quite far in that research.
