+1, big time.

I'm a McLaren fan first and foremost, but I'd hate to see Lewis driving for someone else.

I think we can class this as a fully clean weekend for him too, can we not? Onwards, to both championships!

Just got back to our hotel room after an amazing day at Monza. There were tonnes of Lewis fans here today, not just Brits either.

Lewis did us all proud, I can't wait to say "I was there for one of Lewis' championship victories" ;)

Damn. Not criticizing you but this is where we are at. Analyzing hugs, you don't get this in proper (American) football.

If he can outscore Alonso at Singapore he takes a huge step towards the WDC

Great result for LH, especially with his recent bereavement, the Spa Disasta and all the fuss EJ sparked off last week with his "scoop". BUT he still needs 6-7pts per race advantage over Alonso to win the title and Raikkonen is looking very dangerous being where he is with no race wins. Remember 2007? Don't forget the Iceman!

“Winning at Monza is one of the greatest experiences of my Formula 1 career. I absolutely love this place: I’ve been coming to Italy to race since I was 13 years old and I just love the culture, the food and the people.

“Since I started in Formula 1, Monza has been one of the races I always wanted to win at – it’s such an incredible, historic circuit and all the great racing drivers have won here. To finally put my name on that list makes me feel extremely proud, but also very humble.

“Our car has been fantastic all weekend, and it was nice to have a relaxed grand prix with no troubles. I was out on my own for most of the race and just tried to manage the gap behind me. I was cruising at the end, but, once I heard that Sergio [Perez] had got past Fernando [Alonso], I had to push a little to keep the cushion over second place.

“The race was very unfortunate for Jenson – we were running first and second at the time and it would have been great for the team if we could have finished like that.

“This championship is proving to be so unpredictable – and I’m so grateful that we’ve got a good car and that we’re in the fight. We’ve got seven more races on the calendar. We should enjoy today, but this victory is just one step. Tomorrow, we’ll start all over again, for Singapore.”

^^^ Excellent! After Spa I wondered if LH was going to have a mid-season implode, but he's manned up and kept his head straight this year. Hopefully we really are now seeing the "new Lewis" his Dad spoke of pre-season. He's obviously lost none of his "heart on sleeve" emotional make-up, but he's managing it a lot better. Come on mate.... there's so much more in there and we want to see it

The next two races are good Lewis tracks, he goes well at Singapore and he goes well at Japan. The car was good in Hungary so it should deal with Singapore fine, and we know its a good high speed car so Japan should be good as well.

Lol I wasn't analysing the hug, I'm not a person who subscribes to the conspiracy theories, and I generally think F1 has become too soft. Just didn't think there was one :p

The Sling is defo a Lewis track..... very technical and a lot of emphasis on the brakes - but I wouldn't be surprised to see JB do very, very well at Suzuka. Fast and flowing.... right up his street.

Well I'm a fan of both of them as drivers and it was a great recovery from Fernando to get on the podium from 10th. Let's hope for an epic LH vs FA battle over the last few races :D

Please me if this has been asked before but what exactly is written on Lewis' helmet that he made a point of pointing at after the win?

I could be wrong. But it looked like he was tapping on the rocket red patch of his helmet. Read into that what you will!

Taken from the official site:

Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren team principal

“Lewis drove a perfect race here at Monza today, and duly took a well-deserved victory - his 20th grand prix win and McLaren’s 180th. In truth, he was in total control throughout all 53 laps, and was never really threatened. We should have scored a one-two finish, but Jenson was deprived of an easy second place by a fuel system problem. That’s frustrating for him and frustrating for us, but the important thing is that our car is a winner. We’ve now won three Grands Prix in a row, and both our drivers are on top form. Lewis has now closed up to second place in the drivers’ world championship, with seven Grands Prix still to run. It was his third victory of the season, and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes’ fifth. The momentum is with us, and the drivers’ world championship crown is well within Lewis’s grasp. In the constructors’ championship, too, we’re in good shape. Winning is what Vodafone McLaren Mercedes is all about. In Singapore in two weeks’ time, we’re planning to do some more of it.”

It sounds like McLaren are putting their eggs in one basket now. If Hamilton does sign for Mercedes in the near future then he needs to be far enough ahead of Button that he is McLaren's only chance of the title. I thought he had done that after Hungary but then suddenly Button was 16 points behind post-Spa. Now that the pre-Spa gap has been restored Hamilton needs to focus on finishing every race until the end of the season.

What I'm really hoping for is a good, solid race in Singapore. It doesn't need to be spectacular, but finishing on the podium and ahead of Alonso are the two keys. He has won two other times this season and suffered a DNF in the following race both times. This cannot happen again.

Finally, I'm so happy that he's taken that elusive win at Monza. Richly deserved and a real career highlight.

Winning at Interlagos would mean so much to Lewis given the emotional roller coaster he went through there in 2007 and 2008. However Mclaren haven't had a competitive car there the past years.

GREAT RACE Lewis. Keep your head up and get it done!!!!. Oh you would be crazy to leave Macca for MB. MB has horrible in season development!!! I fear you would never win there. Further MB F1 team is not fully committed to F1 much like BMW.

I think I would put my money on Lewis for WDC this year, he is on serious form at the moment, and the Mclaren seems to be holding its best car spot as well.
I can feel a podium streak for Lewis, it must be lovely for you Hamilton fans! :drunk:

Yes, he said "ciao a tutti". He tweeted in Italian as well!
