is this possible? Massa surely can't stay at Ferrari for another useless year.....I don't think Michael wants to retire, he isnt looking like he did in 2006......, so, if Merc replaced him, could a 1 year move to Ferrari be possible?

Of course no.
Before Schumacher i am pretty sure Ferrari will be looking to the pirelli test cause Robert Kubica.
Even before Kubica they are a few driver in the listo, so , no even close.

Unfortunately Massa has the seat for one more year.

So it will be :

Lewis to Mercedes
Perez to McLaren
Vettel to Ferrari in 2014 (so Massa gets another year)

So for Schumacher its retirement or small chance at Sauber.

Even if Ferrari wanted it, I can't see Schumacher wanting to drive alongside Alonso at Ferrari. This Mercedes outing might just be a lark for him, but his legend rests in Maranello.

I actually think Schumi would jump at a year back at Ferrari, if he was offered equal status at least until the points situation played out. But they wont offer him that, because:
1. Massa will do the same job Schumacher will do;
2. at a much cheaper price, and
3. accept from day 1 that he's the #2.

I doubt it somehow, Schumacher is nowhere near as good as he was, he's not performed at Mercedes and till recently has been outperformed there by Rosberg.

schumacher was nvr good! His merc stint proved that, his success is based on the engineers he stolen from benetton. He is smart in compensating his lack of talent with electronic aids!!

We all know Michael's leaving Mercedes just so his friend Lewis isn't without a drive next year, just like he so generously did for Felipe in 2006 Now that there's a gap at McLaren, he may decide he still has the desire to continue. Sadly for him, I doubt the desire will be mutual.

It would be terrible for Ferrari. He would divide loyalties in the team, and then they would have to retire him all over again.

But maybe he should go to Sauber.

IMHO Sho will not go to Ferrari, but I hope he will not stay in Merc (in any role). The team does everithing in this season to broke him.

He might stay in F1 in Sauber (maybe in Renault or in Williams) or retire.

Schumacher is far too close to Massa to be responsible for putting him out of a drive. Not going to happen. Plus Luca would realise it would unsettle the team too much. History is best left in the past. It's either McLaren or he goes home.

Yes, he is not looking like in 2006.

He is looking resigned, he puts the fight, but when things don't go his way, he simply moves on... He looks like he lacks the fire of back then.

And Schumacher, playing second fiddle for Alonso?

Interestingly, Schumacher ending up at Sauber, would take him full-circle, since he raced for the team in sportscars prior to his F1 debut... plus both team and driver are based in Switzerland. (Seriously, this would be a bigger surprise than Lewis jumping ship to Mercedes.)

I hope Michael got to leave on his terms, although I am beginning to think Mercedes took the decision away from him. I would agree, now is the time to walk away from F1. Why risk it all just to battle for the odd podium? He hoped to be part of a team that was challenging for titles by now. It hasn't happened, he is unlikely to find a seat in a top tier team, and (to my mind) the only option is to retire gracefully (again).

I think he just wants to drive. He has gotten 7 championships and like 91 wins I think that's fine, I don't think he cares about his legacy and what people think of him and his career.

actually I agree. Don't think ferrari will offer it but if they did I think he would jump at it. Legacy is all well and good but to some people retirement is just not an option!

He perfectly knows what his role would be in Ferrari, not because they will tell him so, but because what he´s capable of these days.

So, considering that, retirement or one farewell year at Ferrari gathering some podiums and perhaps a victory?, i don´t think Sauber would bet on him.

It´s normal he and his people is still in contact with Ferrari, so many years and experiences.

Ferrari pushed Schumi to retirement, so the fact that he wanted to drive for Mercedes when he had the chance can´t be a negative thing for a possible comeback now.

Let´s see what happens these days, i´m not ruling out the possibility.
