This is strictly to report, speculate, discuss Michael Schumacher's Future after his contract expires at Mercedes.

I believe he will stay on driving, most probably for Sauber. Although some rumours are saying his manager Sabine Kehm was seen on her way to Maranello.

What do think?

Retiring or Continuing on as a driver and where?

I hope he will continue, but I'm afraid that this is his last season in action.
If he does decide to continue, I'd prefer a team-up with Alonso at Ferrari. That would be a killer team and a nightmare for the rest of the field... :rotfl:

Sauber is the logical pick.

He started his success with Sauber in WSC, and he will end his career with Sauber in F1.

Thats what he said about Mercedes when he joined them in 2010.

I just want him to be in a capable team. At least capable of a podium with a chance of a win.

I can only hope he does not retire yet. But realistically, I don't see him going on. I also hope he is not considering a stake in a team.

I think if he had decided to definitely retire, then that decision would have been reported at the same time as the Hamilton and Perez moves.
To me it looks like he's weighing up his options. I'd love to see him back at Ferrari but think it's unlikely, Sauber would seem logical to me and they've got a very good car this year. Or alternatively he may decide to retire, I think the lack of information shows that he does have options.

When I think of all the big crashes and incidents Schumacher has been involved in during his comeback I kinda want him to retire, he doesn't need to be taking these risks in a midfield drive after everything he has done in his career.

If he could get a Ferrari drive for one final year I would be ok with that.

Very reasonable consideration, however based on evidence you may also conclude, that he is not really happy how things are right now, and none of those (speculated) options are really pleasing him, otherwise he would say so. Perhaps we will hear from him before next race in Japan, or also not before January.

I think he will make his mind up after Korea on what to do. I just hope seats are left in teams by then.

That will not be good for Michael, Kimi has the upper hand there; same with Alonso at Ferrari.

Best place for Schumi would surely be Sauber, they are kind for the tyres...something that Schumi missed at Mercedes!

I think we will be hearing in October, as he initially said.

It does sound promising that he may be looking for a drive, i don't mind where it is so long as its not Merc, HRT, Caterham or Torro Rosso. I think he would match or beat Kimi, beat Koba and trail Alonso but a small margin.

Although KR is not the type who cares who his teammate is, if there is one guy he dislikes, it is MS, IMHO. ( "so where is the rain???")

At Sepang in 2007?
Regrding KR, don't forget that he played his bad role for Michael already, back in 2006, when MS prefered to quit F1 rather than to be KR's teammate.

Good on him(them) then. I did not know that. All I seem to remember from back then is the "owl" stories, and that MS is Kimi's bad luck in person. :D

I don't see him going back to Ferrari either at this time. He has achieved everything possible with them already and he is not some young gun to be Alonso's number 2...

Luca, forgive Michael for leaving Ferrari and welcome him back..... he speaks italian, he eats spaghetti, he knows all the engineers.....

this would be a perfect swansong for Michael, 1 year back at Ferrari, against the best driver currently (my opinion).....................

personally, if I was MS, I'd do 1 year at Ferrari for free; it aint like he needs the $

allow me to add, I know MS is older... but who can forget Imola 2005 and Brazil 2006...... yes, it was 6 years ago... but the driver who drove that is still exceptional!... remember, Michael got POLE at Monaco this year..... lets not forget its still there; I really feel the lack of power of F1 cars, the finicky tires and a car which EATS its rear tires, all completely play against Michael!

as a fan since 91, 1 year at Ferrari would be magic

Second and definitive retirement from F1.
What would he get at Sabuer besides the odd point and many midfield races?

I think Bernie will try to get him the Ferrari seat. That would be bigger than his return with Mercedes.

- return to Ferrari and then retire and hand the car over to Vettel

Bernie must be wetting himself thinking about it.

Many of us are living under impression, that it was LdM who effectively ended his career with SF. I am actually not sure at all what was the trigger. I thought it was tiredness, but this was turned later into some allegedly ugly ending...

When Michael retired the first time, he said it was so that Massa could keep his seat. It would look bad for him to be coming in and taking it now, ending Felipe's career at 32.

I just can't see things running smoothly with MS and FA together at Ferrari. It would not be the same with someone else as the presumptive team leader, and could be another unhappy experience.

MS needs to find a role, in F1 or elsewhere, that can be a long term challenge for him. It is a pity he retired early the first time, but it at least showed that retirement is difficult and that he needs to have a new career of some sort.

I would probably have Michael replace Senna if that did happen or he could join sauber. I don't think they Lotus would need to replace their line up. The only other question would be his salary.

If Michael did go back to Ferrari, it might be back to his previous job. Wasn't he involved with the roadcars as well as a bit of F1 involvement? Remember the only reason he left Ferrari in the first place is that he'd gotten the bug back and wanted to drive again and there was no vacancy at Ferrari.

In my heart of heart I still see him as a Ferrari man whether it be a driver or on the pit wall.

The question is, has he severed ties with Mercedes? If he has then returning to Ferrari in some capacity could be an option. Maybe not as a driver, but in some other role.

I can't see Michael settling for anything other than a top team, nor can I see Sauber taking him on. They have no reason to dump Kobayashi, and they require the Telemex funds so they will promote Esteban GutiƩrrez.

If Vettel is going to Ferrari for '14, and Ferrari require a doorstop for a single year, then Michael is a better pick than Massa. To me that seems his only hope other than taking on Mercedes PR duties.

Ms meet with the lotus owner Gerard Lopez. Reports said Ecclestone was there also and he very linke the ideo of a Schumi - Kimi driver pairing.

A Renault advert with Schumi in the winter would be a great surprise for Dr. Zetsche & the Merc board:)

I think the parties over and its time to except the truth and move into another role, maybe a consultancy role with Ferrari/Mercedes or a job with the FIA. I think it would be pretty sad if he couldn't give up F1 and except its over. I'm not attacking him I'm just stating my opinion that I think his time as a driver is over, sure that he can be useful in a number of other roles though so it isn't necessary bad news. The onset of time can't be stopped sadly!

I highly doubt MS would consider signing for Sauber. Lotus, well that thought is close to insane really, might as well expect Brawn to leave Merc and join the old team too. :)
