I’m not sure why they’re shocked - the bloke is massively quick. The only driver Alonso/ Hamilton truly feared, if that doesn’t tell you anything, I don’t know what does. Yes, he’s inexperienced in a Rally car, and there is the pace notes which is what normally causes problems for circuit racers.

Anyone having luck with the live timing, because I can't reach it neither through the FIA ERC website or the Rally Canarias website?

SS3 (I'm not sure but big part of this stage was dry)

1. Kubica 8:50.5
2. Kopecky 8:51.3

Tks, works pretty well, and Kubica's times so far are hugely impressive. Let's hope he can keep it on the road.

What's the difference between RRC and S2000 car?..

and why it's listed as Citroen DS3 S2000 on live timing, while it should be listed as Citroën DS3 RRC ?

(Or i got it all completly wrong !? :0)

S2000 cars have more power, higher top speed etc. RRC on the other hand have more torque (less power) and are better on the twisty bits. All things considered they have different characteristics, but at the end of the day the difference is marginal.

Especially when we talk about factory cars like Kopecky's Skoda and Robert's Citroen. Both great rally cars!

Thanks Alot for clarifying !.. back to the bit about live timing names.. from replies I assume Robert DS3 isn't really a S2000 car? and it's just a mistake huh?

RRC's are essentially WRC cars but with a different restrictor and fewer aerodynamics. In the end RRC's and S2000 should be about the same pace, but the biggest advantage the RRC's have is the 1.6 turbo engine (vs. 2 litre NA in S2000), especially on the uphill parts and in wet weather.

But I'm really impressed with Kubica...

Yeah, that's a mistake. Just to update on tyre/weather situation: it's wet-damp with rain going on and off. Kopecky on inters, Breen on slicks, Robert with slicks on the front and inters on the back (he waited till the last minute to see what others were doing).

I've seen the RRCs referred to as S2000s in a few places. It's not correct but they seem to be lumped in together for the sake of simplicity, since the car classes are well matched hence almost equivalent.

Seems to be very understeery choice.

Interesting, I'd think that it's difficult to use all the torque on a slippery road (though having a better torque/power curve would help).

The Citroen wasn't driven much compared to the Skoda, wasn't it.

The Citroen wasn't driven much compared to the Skoda, wasn't it.

The n/a s2000s have light switch power delivery - it's not really possible to feed the throttle. This makes them very snappy & causes them to break traction often in the wet
The turbo cars have a more progressive power delivery, especially in the initial acceleration phase helping them get the initial bite when the accelerator is pressed.
The ds3 may not have done many events in the rrc guise but the car it's based on has won the last 2 world rally championships so it as least as good as any other car eligible for the erc.

That said, rob is flying and leading the event because of talent, not his machinery

Yeah, Robert himself said that RRC gives him advantage on exits from slow corners. But he believes S2000 might make it up on fast twisty sections.
Anyway his speed is suprising. I know its partially down to conditions but that for me even more impressive that despite poor experience he menages to do well in tricky conditions.
Aspecially since hes claiming that hes taking it easy :)
Also kudos for Jan Kopecky who actually gave to Robert his onoard videos to help him prepare to the rally.

TBH I wasn't expecting Robert to gain such a big lead, and straight away.

And I guess the Italian drivers whom Robert competed against weren't as bad as some said they were.

Nice Kopecky. Though not very surprising, Robert and Jan are friends and Robert's RBR online rallying nick was actually "Kopecky FAN" :)

I know, that's why I wrote about torque curve (not torque value) :) I guess that's what they've meant.

Kopecky claims he had a huge moment at the end of SS7, luckily survived unscathed (interview on the radio).

Robert's looking supremely good at the moment. Let's hope he can keep it together for the victory.

Edit: Radio guy just screamed "It's Kubica!!!". I almost had a heart attack. He was 1.1 faster than Kopecky.

I must say, I'm really not impressed by Craig Breens's attitude. He comes across as a very bad looser. Someone has just had a reality check perhaps. :p
