I'm aware of the mods' stance on 2013 car threads, but IMHO we have enough info about the F2013 to satisfy the criteria of "some concrete news or even good rumours about that particular car", even if we don't have a name yet. I'll go with incrementing the name of last year's car.

So here it goes:

Courtesy of showtime:

http://www.auto.it/a...rari si sdoppia

Ci saranno a Maranello due gruppi di lavoro distinti: uno, quello per la vettura 2013, coordinato da Simone Resta, l’altro, quello del 2014, affidato a Fabio Montecchi

There will be two different working groups at Maranello. One for the 2013 car, coordinated by Simone Resta, the other for the 2014 car entrusted to Fabio Montecchi

Interesting interview with Domenicalli, lot's of talk about the organization of the team at Maranello and how changes are still being done in order to be more competitive. Unfortunately is just in Italian: http://www.omnicorse..._medium=twitter

Fry and Domenicalli has been doing a huge job since 2010 with the organization and working process. It's always a pain doing big changes in those areas and it takes time until it starts to pay dividends. I Have faith in both of them and remain optimistic for the future (2014 onwards).

Thanks to quasi C:

Interesting. Just some quickly translated points:
- The renewed Maranello tunnel won't be ready until August.
- They are exclusively using the cologne tunnel. Domenicali "McLaren also use this tunnel so it's well capable of producing top performing cars"
- Moving to a split design team like McLaren used to have. This is to guarantee more time for creativity for each car.
- Production department is fine. Those who have come from other teams have confirmed this.
- Development of next years car started only a few weeks before the end of last season. [he must mean aero package]

Via Autosport:
  • Separate design co-ordinators for 2013 and '14 cars as part of a reorganisation of its technical efforts.
  • Team boss Stefano Domenicali said Ferrari had concluded that inefficient technical organisation had been a key weak point in recent seasons.
  • Nikolas Tombazis retains his chief designer role
  • Ferrari is revamping its windtunnel after pinpointing correlation problems
  • Domenicali said it will also adjust its windtunnel testing procedures.
Domenicali:

"We have decided, particularly in light of the unusual demands we will face in 2013, when we will have a completely new project to work on for the future, to have two co-ordinators."
"Simone Resta, an engineer who has developed his career in Maranello and is very effective, will work on the 2013 car and Fabio Montecchi will deal with the one for the following year."
"We have also adopted a better method of splitting up the work between those who run the windtunnel and those who should concentrate more on the creative side of the job."
"This year, we saw that when we do too many things at the same time, maybe we are not efficient enough."
"Clearly we have only been concentrating all our efforts on the new one from a few weeks before the final race, given we pushed right to the end on this year's."
"The 2013 car will be launched at the very end of January or the early days of February."
"As usual, the first one will be just a launch version, while the complete one will be seen in the final days of testing or in Australia, so as to make the most of all the time available."

LdM:

"We will need to try and push the technical regulations to the very limit," he said, "while maintaining our strong points from this year, or improving them still further, because the others will not be twiddling their thumbs, but not by almost brushing against illegality, as happened in 2009 with the double diffuser.
"However we need to adopt a different, more creative approach."

I feel fir Fernando. This is a Looooooong term plan. I see no reason as to how Ferrari can feel confident to 2013 car beating Newey's RB. More must come fro Ferrari to extract performance of 2013 car. Nail iy I hope otherwise Kimi will get it.

Could someone please translate this, it's about the 2013 car.
http://i48.tinypic.com/1q4olk.png

Rear suspension (probably) like Red Bull.
Pull-rod again for the front suspension.
The rest is just a compilation of the rule changes.

Project 664 already passed the FIA crash test by mid December and will be in time for the first test at Jerez.

Iridescent says Ferrari have not used the Maranello tunnel at all in developing the F2013. So, fingers crossed.

Where is the concrete news or even rumour about the new car? I really can't see anything in the OP that gives anything away about the car.

I'm looking forward to the annual Ferrari new car prediction rendering made by Gazetta delo Sport or Marca or sth.

I like how they get it quite close sometimes while get it spectacularly wrong sometimes

It is confirmed that the 2013 Ferrari F1 car will be developed exclusively in Toyota's Cologne facilities. http://www.planetf1....-Ferrari-a-hand McLaren have used the tunnel as well, and we know they have been the car that has beaten the Red Bull on track mostly.

Interesting is that the 2013 car can carry only 135 litres of fuel for a GP. Domenicalli said in connection to this that they will not be able to push all the time in all races (source AMS)

What's that only ~104 kg of fuel?
That doesn't sound right, isn't that less than the turbo cars (finally 150L in 1988), surely even with modern technology and KERS the F1 car is not that efficient?

Thanks to Showtime in the launch dates thread, Omnicorse:

Internal numbering: Ferrari 664.
Successfully passed FIA crash tests in mid-December.
The launch date will be published at Vroom in Madonna di Campiglio (Jan 13-20) and is rumored to be between Jan 31 and Feb 2. (Fixed after Kosmos's post further down pointing out my earlier mistake)

There's lots of concrete news about the development of the 2013 car. I dont see how thats not good enough. Makes no sense to keep putting that info in the 2012 thread.

AMS: graphic changes on the car between 2012 and 2013

Posted Image

Change of the weight balance front-back, 100 kg on the front wing max 10 mm flex, stronger shell protecting the driver, no use of DRS to have impact of other parts of the car, no step in the nose (it is generally afraid that it will stay and will be just covered by something)

The discussion about red cars in F1 has been split to it's own topic. Also if you wish to discuss Wrooom 2013, it would be worth starting a thread on that, otherwise this thread will stop being about the 2013 car.

The rules allow for a non-load baring piece of bodywork to cover the nose section between the end of the nose and the front axle

I can't see this being a good solution at all. In the event of an accident, this piece of bodywork will almost certainly come loose and could potentially be dangerous, irrespective of how light it is.

Thankfully, in 2014, the max height on the bulkhead will be reduced as will the max height on the nose from the front axle forward.

This picture is rather nose prediction than whole car concept. This car looks like after Spanish GP upgrade with covered nose, FW and RW endplates are from middle of the 2012 season ,not those from last races, exhaust is also Barcelona and Monaco spec.

According to AMS you MAY cover the step on the nose, so no MUST... they expect other teams follow RB with a hole in that step

So about as dangerous as a damper cover?

Damper cover is bolted to the bulkhead. No way for it to come loose unless the bulkhead tears. And if that happens, a piece of bodywork is the least the driver would have to worry about.

On the other hand, this cover will be bolted to the nose cone which can easily be shattered in an accident.

In retrospect, I might be slightly over reacting.

I presume this is what the cross section might look like. The red lines indicated attachment points. While the lower part of the nose is obviously load bearing, the step cover is not allowed to be load bearing.

This is from another thread, I decided to move the discussion here, where the topic belongs.

Why would the DRS ban make a difference, you don't use it in corners, sure it'll make Red Bull lose 2-3 tenths because of their system they had in late 2012 but it won't make a difference in corners.

Ferrari had a lot of oversteer coming out of corners when deploying DRS, hence the generally poor qualifying.

Have you noticed though, in races such as Monaco and Canada, where Red Bull were clearly ahead in qualifying, but Ferrari matched them on race day?

I certainly believe that the DRS ban in qualy will help Ferrari.

Does the cover on the nose cone have to be solid? Or could it be used like the 2008 wing we used? With the hollow curve inside.
