Would be nice if they broadcasted the races in their original format rather than trying to stretch the video so it fits todays widescreens. Would also be good if they could venture back a bit further than the 1990's with full races.

When they aired classic Monaco and Britain races last year, they were in their original aspect ratio.

Maybe your TV is set to 'fill screen' hence why he was asking whether you are being serious. It's probably a fault YOUR end and nothing to do with Sky.

Actually I haven't seen any of the Sky coverage for archive thus far. I mentioned what I did because RAI of Italy for instance rebroadcasted material from the 1970's but failed to keep the original aspect ratio and therefore the viewing experience was not as pleasant as it could have been.

I'm not sure this is strictly accurate. Sky are quite happy making money from grey market subscribers outside of the UK.

I believe it is accurate in that the contract says something along the lines of "The equipment must not be taken out of or used outside of the UK". So you would be breaking your contract, which theoretically could be legally enforced by Sky if they found out, but in reality they never would find out.

I've had a Polish N dish and decoder running for years and the guy in Poland who signed the deal for me actually asked if I was taking it to England - when I answered "yes" he took me to the back of the store and got me the right sized dish I would need to pick up the signal.

All you would need to do is take your decoder etc to Poland with you (you don't even need the dish, buy a dish when you get home), but you will have to be paying for your subscription from a UK address and bank account. We pay for our Polish subscription from a relatives address in Poland.

Can I just say, having watched the last seven races of 2012 in Hong Kong, Star Sports is absolute tripe. Constant adverts (I think their record during my time watching is a gap of three laps around Abu Dhabi before cutting away again) and rubbish commentators who trot out the same sort of tired cliches you read in newspapers who only follow F1 because they feel they have to.

I ended up watching the US and Brazilian races on a stream at home (because both were in the middle of the night so the pub wasn't open) and actually preferred it! I watched the US race with US commentary which was fun, and it was very smooth. Brazil on the other hand was very jerky and, by the end, unwatchable, but I think that was because it was the title decider so lots of online warriors thought they might as well tune in.

It's slightly painful that the last race I watched in a civilised manner was Monza, and I never thought I would call Sky civilised.

Yes, Sky are perfectly happy to take money from anyone outside of the UK. It's doubtful though that F1HD or F1SD is available in Poland, last year for us it was great, to be fair, however, these two channels, along with another 25 or so, three weeks ago, moved to the 1N satellite which has a much tighter UK specific beam. They were supposed to have gone on to the 2F pan-european beam but have not. The 2E satellite is due for launch next month and active by July/August and all Sky is supposed to go on to that, it has a pan-european beam. Whether it happens or not is anyone's guess at the moment.

Sky are to screen 5 classic full races before each race weekend. Australia will have 1994, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2010 - the latter four will be the entire race.

i have a question,here in africa we get all the races live through the bbc feed so i was wondering how come people are complaining about 10 races a season,is it only in the UK that you only get 10 races?
in other words how does the sky/bbc work in terms of their worldwide feed?

You get the world feed plus BBC commentary for all the races, whereas in the UK we only get 10 live and the rest in highlights form.

Yes you have to pay more. The Sky package does cost more and you can't subscribe to just the F1 channel, but you do get a lot more channels than the BBC provide. Sky is optional though, whereas the TV licence (BBC fee) is compulsory.

There are rumours that she left to be on that new BT sports channel, that will have the Premier League rights for next season, the same channel that Jake Humprey left the BBC for.

If you check her Twitter account at the end of January (NO Tweets in nearly 3 weeks ??) she seems to be looking forward to coming back.
She'll be missed, thought her the MOST IMPROVED member of the SKY F1 team over the course of the season.
Don't think Natalie Pinkham can carry the gig, hoping that I am proved wrong.
Tonight's F1 show with Natalie, David Croft, Johnny Herbert & guest Karun Chandhok seemed wafer thin.
Waited all these months for the 2013 season to begin, the racing spectacle seems sure to deliver.
I only hope the broadcasters haven't lost the plot with a decline in their standards when the lights go green in Melbourne.
Changes to both the SKY & BBC teams make me wonder.

Generally speaking, when people move jobs, it is announced by the organisation they are joining, not the one they are leaving.

I suspect she is joining BT but has a few months notice to work for Sky, hence no announcement.

Just had a look at the Sky guide for next week. Georgie and Ted are down to present the F1 show next Friday. Could just be a mistake though as she really does appear to have been completely removed from the sky website.
To be fair, apart from being eye-candy, she really had no role to play in the coverage, it's not surprising.

I must admit, I was getting used to her, especially considering how easy she is on the eyes but I kinda' felt she stuck out like a saw thumb in places, especially during Ant's commentary of pole laps, just nodding her head.

Not keen on Pinkham as the replacement though, she says/does some things that feel really forced and out of place for the norm of the show.

On the BBC front I hope to god Suzi Perry has got through the early jitters, she looked so nervous and uneasy in the early promo videos on the BBC site.

I think she should of replaced Simon. He was ok towards the end of the season, but I think she would do a much better job at presenting the show, and getting more info out of drivers and team.

Oh well not to much has changed I guess. regarding the Sky team.

Effectively putting the whole of F1 on Pay TV and many needing to signup to a new service. That would really hack people off, and I don't think it would be enough to induce people over to BT anyway.
