Rather pathetic this Red Bull team. They already have one of the most annoying drivers and actions like these make me dislike that team even more. I hope they go backwards with their car this season. It's time for a WC battle between proper racing teams again.

Not a big Webber fan myself but why do you consider him annoying?

I don't have any problem with hiding important parts of the car etc. McLaren also hid their exhaust at the launch. Teams' launch spec cars should be open to media and fans without such restrictions. This is not good PR really.

Yeah agree with you.. it's just normal to try to hide important parts especially during this part of the season, but they can do it in many, many more subtle ways. I'm sure the other teams that have unveiled the car are also hiding important parts they won't reveal until the last test. Poor way to handle it from RB :/

Eh? Your seriously using a kid jumping in a bed as a legitimate analogy to the blacked out RB9 launch.

One is a case of protecting both the child and your property the other is paranoia.

it is a good analogy... both are forbidden to do something, both get angry, the reason for not allowing something are irrelevant... it's RBs right, simple as that.... they posted pictures of the car themselves.... so who cares?

The only difference I can tell is the step in the nose being redesigned. Everything else seems to be exactly like the RB8 from the photos that I can tell...?

The poor excuse for a lauch is pretty bad and I cant believe some people are defending it. If it was Ferrari, I couldn't defend it. They just shouldn't do a launch and just have the car revealed at the track on the 5th like Williams did last year. That way they get to keep hidden whatever it is they dont want seen and nobody is upset at them for wasting their time.

That said, a lot of people are really going a little extreme with the criticism. A lot of people already dont like the team and any little excuse they can get to bash them is taken without a 2nd thought.

Anyways, the purple I dont mind, actually. I'd like to see it on-track before I make up my mind about it.

Somehow I think this is only a slightly changed 2012 nose and not the real one they are going to use this season.

So much sad Red Bull bashing from people on here!

I just came back from the launch and I can confirm a few things!

1. Firstly, the 3G signal blocking was not true at all - I had 3G and was uploading a picture to Facebook.
2. They kindly asked not to take photos, however some journos did and there were at least 10 designated press video cameras. There were no bouncers blocking the car and no cameras taken away.
3. Scarbs was chosen in the Q&A session to ask a question.
4. They had designated photographers taking photos - possibly why the press was limited.
5. The actual event was delayed as they tried to sort out the online live launch. They couldn't so the event went on without the stream.

Grow up people and stop seeing fact less twitter comments as a chance to pointlessly bash Red Bull.

Then just post the pictures, don't have a mockery of a launch. Hopefully the media will use their right to blank them and then see how the sponsors react.

you weren't there and you just heard one side of the story.... I think you probably heard before how SOME journalists are.... you don't exactly know what was said and/or done... I don't think they did waste their time and/or money.... some journalists just didn't get their will... its like when you forbid a kid to jump on the bed.... it will get angry too and complain

Craig Scarborough is not SOME journalist. He's about the most sincere and respected guy around.

Correct.

Red bull take the fans for granted and forget without us they wouldn't have jobs in F1 and Vettel wouldn't be earning millions.

F1 is still a show, thats why they have these launches. Redbull seem to forget this.

Launches which are not even shown on german tv.... and the McLaren and Lotus launch livestreams couldn't been seen in germany either without using a proxy

you really overrate these launches just because they are shown in your country.... they aren't shown here and teams still have their fans

and to my Dutch friend above Vettel is actually one of my favorite drivers cause he is natural and funny he is my generation (1 year younger) and I don't think he is acting like a kid at all... he is acting like the people around my age normally do...

One of the problems F1 currently suffers from is its restrictive style and distance it places the public from the teams, cars and drivers. Red Bull isn't helping that problem today.

It has always since the 70's for been one of the alluring things about F1, while its a non spec series I don't think it will become NASCAR like in fan access.

I can empathize with todays fan, however for those wanting the fan experience like other sports they may wait awhile yet. The essence of F1 has never been about the fans, while it has changed a little and I agree with those wanting to change things like access for fans until its mandated and they can work out how to do it while protecting IP through a season it may take awhile. Also Bernie has a lot to do with it, if you ain't payin he ain't playin.

I didn't have a great view of the RB9 tbh and as I was a guest I respected their wish for no photos, sorry guys! All I can really confirm is some technical details discussed. Not much on the car has changed that you haven't seen.

Alright let's get the emotion out of the way, and also the assumptions shall we.

Whose property is the car? Redbulls

Who has the right to do whatever they want with said property? Redbull

Who said a car launch must be streamed? No one I know of and teams aren't obligated to do so.

Who has the right to control their IP anyway they see fit? Redbull

Journo's whining about restrictions is what they always do, and if anyone believes that McLaren just gave free access to their car without a brief on can and cannot s they've kidding themselves.

End result this thread got derailed by haters looking for an excuse to troll because they have nothing better to do, Redbull haven't been the only team to suffer this rubbish.

It's a F1 not the Ipad 5 we have pics we will have more info I am sure, it will go around in circles in a few days, but the must have it right now twitter generation simply have no patience and their sense of entitlement makes me want to throw them in the weeds for a few weeks to sort their priorities out. The shelter, water, food app won't help them is all I can say.

Now back to the car, paint looks great, there are a lot of details that are different, how they all inter relate will be a few days coming I gather.

Order of Merit for sweet looking rides IMO

McLaren, great looking car

Ferrari

Redbull for paint

Sauber for paint and style

Lotus

The rest.......

Comparing the launch of a new F1 car to an iPad is silly, for one thing, when Apple launches a new device, it allows the press to have hands on access and there are no blocks on what can be photographed/filmed.

The victim of this stunt today (and to a lesser degree the Mercedes farce) are the fans - 'us' - as like the rest of you, I have been waiting all week to see this car. It is likely to be the class of the field and I am interested to see what Newey has been up to. As I said before, the press are there to feed the fans information - and the fans feed the sport with sponsors. So, what do I walk away with today about the RB9? Its purple and has an odd nosecone...

Now, compared to the McLaren launch - this is utter crap, amateur hour stuff. Total disregard for the fans of the sport, and those of its own team. The car will be on track in a couple of days, the other teams who will have photographers all around the circuit will know every aero inch of the car by Friday. Yet it will be us the fans who yet again remain mostly in the dark. As many have said, not holding a launch would have been better than this.

Emotion aside, you have to ask yourself why do you care about a team which seems to care so little about you?

:rotfl: Mclaren and Ferrari fans going ham in this thread, never gets old.

Glory hunters is a little harsh - fair weather followers may be a better term. All teams have this when they are winning - some fans simply like to support the winning team and bounce from team to team based on who is doing the biz. Doesn't detract from those who support whatever the result which Red Bull will have an equal amount of to the other teams.

Mclaren and Ferrari fans are the biggest gloryhunters of them all. Go support Caterham only if you want to have some sort of moral high ground.

That purple is sexy though, the cars are much better looking than last year even without the step nose-difference.

Not at all. Newey confirmed the car has a vanity panel, it's just small as to not add too much weight.

There was to be a live launch but they had technical difficulties which delayed the whole event as a result. Don't immediately assume RBR just 'doesn't care' about the fans.

ok maybe it is a new nose. but there is still a panel at exactly that point were the slot was.
Also i can't believe that a team, which adds a ramp and a tunnel to his car, doesn't use the modesty panel just to save some grams

If Vettel had won them by narrow margins in odd circumstances, that'd be luck.

You clearly don't understand how this works.

When Alonso wins a race, it is because of his amazing skills and it's 70% car:30% driver.
When Vettel wins a race, it is because of the car and it's 95% car:5% driver.

When Alonso finishes just 3 points behind Vettel, it is because he has given 100% all year and hasn't caught any breaks.
When Vettel wins the championship, he was lucky that Alonso DNF'ed in Belgium and Japan.

When Alonso's team-mate is faster than him but held back, we don't know how fast Felipe really was anyway.
When Vettel's team-mate has better racepace in 3 out of 20 races, clearly Vettel was being outdone when the car wasn't fastest.

How can you still not get this? :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:

From what I saw, it looks like he's been cheeky and the panel is designed to smooth out the airflow. Anything bigger wouldn't be worth it.

Ironically, Caterham is the other team I support. Would have preferred them to keep the Team Lotus name of course, but you cannot have everything. I am also a Newey fan since his days at Williams.

The rules 'suggest' that the panels cannot just be there for an aero gain so rather naughty if this is the case.

It makes the car look better too tbh, and James Allison said he'd do the same if he came up with a design. Don't go to the "red bull is cheating" route, I'm sure Ferrari's works in tandem with their aero package too.

Compared to the previous cars, there is a huge amount of bodywork missing around the gearbox.

They may have done a Williams style box, not sure how they would be able to package the driveshaft if that were the case however. They may have inverted it however, that would free up a ton of space under the box.

So some Mac/Ferrari fans gets annoyed that RedBull didn't do a conventional launch. Then some RedBull fans start labeling all Mac/Ferrari fans as 'haters'?

I couldn't care less about the handling of the launch. I got to see pics of the new RB early. However F1 fans that do care are justified in their criticism when they see this kind of thing, and they shouldn't all be called haters. (I do understand some of the things said about who had the better launch are a bit ridiculous).

Anyways, back to the RB9. That sidepod is crazy small. Very impressive. Their tunnel imo takes from both the Sauber/RB8 concept and the McLaren concept. Although this may change for the tests.
Like the Ferrari a lot more parts should be in store, as both teams were still battling for the title last year and were a little behind in getting their 2013 cars fully developed for launch. Newey said it was a great effort just to make the Jerez test.

It looks nice, I like the new livery and the step nose.
Good luck RB for the new season.
