Would something like hard-hard-medium be the best strategy.
hard-hard-hard-medium.

Here's hoping for a wet start to the race behind the safety car! That would be great for Sebastian and not so good for the 2 Ferraris.
I'm hoping for that just to see the comments here.

I reckon hard-hard-medium-hard might be the better combination; it gives a bit more flexibility if you need to change the length of the medium stint.hard-hard-hard-medium.

56 laps. I would say 3 pitstops to be more likely in the dry with Hard (15 laps) - Hard (15 laps) - Hard (15 laps) - Medium (11 laps) combination.Would something like hard-hard-medium be the best strategy.

so seemingly Kimi got some kind of penalty
Kimi handed 3-place Sepang grid penalty for impeding Rosberg in qualifying.

and what is with the gearbox? was there not something saying that they might need to change Kimis gearbox as well?

That'd be good for Ferrari too! Merc will come alive in the dry, lotus too.

Nothing against Kimi but I thought it was 5 places they dropped?

No, 3 for minor things3 Place grid drop? 3?? Do stewards pull random numbers out of their backsides?
Nothing against Kimi but I thought it was 5 places they dropped?
5 for gearbox and reasonable things
10 for engine change and severe things.

My understanding is that Raikkonen suffered from a hydraulic pressure loss due to some leakages. It could be fixed without changing the gearbox.and what is with the gearbox? was there not something saying that they might need to change Kimis gearbox as well?

Are they the only three cars who are going to finish? That Williams is going nowhere.
Rooting for Kimi and Lewis tomorrow. Been a long time since I've supported Kimi, but if Lotus really do have a fast car I want them to beat Vettel, not the Ferrari's.

... therefore it's a big fat unknown between Vettel and the 2 Ferraris for the win. I have a feeling it'll be Ferrari's day but will it be Massa or Alonso? Massa has been getting better and better every race and I don't think he can be screwed by strategy every day even if Ferrari favour their Spanish man. I'm gonna stick my neck out and bravely, maybe foolishly, call for a Massa win.
If it's wet all bets are called off. Anyone has weather forecast? Autosport Live used to have a FANTASTIC detailed forecast but they don't do that anymore.

I think in normal conditions for Kimi to repeat the 7th to 1st race at Melbourne would be difficult - he won't always start well then be able to jump 3 drivers through pit strategy. From 10th then it's really really difficult. I expect him to recover a few places because that car in his hands is the quickest, but to make it all the way to the win is too much, maybe a podium at very best. My prediction is he'll come 4th or 5th.

1)Massa
2)Lewis
3) Vettel
But it won't happen, so it probably will be:
1)Alonso
2)Massa
3) Vettel (he'll likely lose his P1 to both Ferrari in the first corner. Even if he doesn't, RB's race pace is clearly worse than Ferrari's anyway. It's a lose-lose for him.)

And after reading the latest topic about downforce and Pirelli tyres.. it seems with these latest tyres.. the least downforce you have.. the better. Less cornering loads, less temperature generated. Too much downforce = bad. I don't remember that ever being the case in F1 before. So it seems like these current tyres reward poor cars (by F1 standards from a few seasons ago).
You could say.. "oh but these tyres need less downforce so the other teams screwed up".. but it's always been in F1 for the last 10 years.. the more downforce you have, the better. You can always reduce front and rear wing angles to tweak it. The only exception I guess would be Ferrari.. who seem to be reasonably quick in all situations.
In all the years I watched.. the stronger cars would always seem to be quick on inters, full wets or dry tyres. And now with these 2013 tyres it seems like that isn't the case anymore. When it's wet.. the Redbull and Mercedes seem stronger and when it's dry the Ferrari, Lotus and Force India seem stronger. I would have expected Sauber to be up there too, where is Sauber?
It's very strange and I hope this isn't the case. I really expected Lotus to be on the pace in quali.. I thought they have the best car but they seemed to be nowhere. Kimi had the right wet tyre strategy and was still miles off. In the dry he wasn't that quick either. In a dry race though, he could be as strong as ever.
If it's wet, I expect Lotus and Force India to struggle again. Which is silly if they have such a fast car.

Just hoping the driving standards remain as good as they were last Sunday, cuz it could get messy.

No. However if the race starts under the safety car then it will be Vettel first and sadly theres a good chance of this happening tomorrow with the predicted weather.

Nothing is in the bag, expect the unexpected with these tyres and weather.

Most likely it would be one stint on inters or wets (15 min or so). What happens then?Bone-dry race=Raikkonen wins.
Rain/mixed conditions=Alonso wins.
