Some highlights...

In qualifying i was .347 seconds faster than the pole lap in ONE corner, the chicane. I was *ultra* comitted over the kerbs, 4 wheels up on them. Ask LB, he showed up :p Unfortunately I was losing out in the high speed corners because im not used to aerodynamics yet :(

The clerk of the course eventually said I couldnt use the kerbs anymore, at least not to that level, so I lost my mega advantage in the passing zone. Something about cutting the corner, even though I wasnt putting wheels in the grass. I was using the first half to get the car to jump and flick into the left hander. It was the quickest way through and the fans seemed to enjoy it.

Had a massive massive crash in final qualifying in a really fast sweeper. I ****ed my turn in and got dirt all over my tires as iwas running wide and mid-way through the corner the turn tightens and goes off-slope so my car couldnt take it and I snap spun and backed straight into the wall. I *destroyed* the tire wall. Just like F1 i threw the wheel out, vaulted the fence and spritned for the pits. I stopped after about 200feet when i realised there was no spare car

Race 1 - I started in second gear because it has an odd gearbox layout :( The field was braking for turn 1 by the time i got to the start line. By the end of lap one I was allready trying to pass somene. Natalie Butler went down the inside to block, I tried passing around the outside of the chicane and overshot and looped it, which forced her to come to a complete stop  I did a wicked dougnut and went smoknig up the pit straight. Later on that race going through turn 2 I rode up on the kerb and my hand shook on the wheel and I accidentally flipped the boost on. So when i got on the throttle I had 50extra HP which meant massive wheelspin and I started to go around so I kept my foot in it, did a 360 and kept going down the straight without stopping :p

Race 2 I was okay, I got a bunch of guys in turn 1. At the start of lap 2, approaching turn 1 at 140mph I confused my foot work (I left foot brake some corners, right foot the other). At any rate I put the clutch in instead of applying the brakes and I went flying off the road at like a 45 degree angle at full bore into a turnip field. I practically made it to the highway that parallel's the circuit. Based on my digital display, I spent a minimum of 34seconds traversing the turnip field. I was so far out I couldnt see the track anymore and had to look around for fans and marshall posts. The clerk of the course said I was one of the farthest explorers ever into the turn 1 field ;)

Even with all the problems I was able to run down a few people in the races. I was driving so hard and it was just biting me.

Normal tire pressures are 18 when the tire is cold, 22 at race speeds. When we got to parc ferme my right rear was reading 4

At one point, I think in one of the practices I was within a second of the provisional pole, which isnt too bad. I was pretty frustrated because I could have gone a lot faster

Might have been a slow puncture, might have picked stuff up going through the pits post-race. There was some serious debris in the chicane but I wasnt avoiding it because I wanted the quick line. Tire didnt blow up during the race so I guess I made the right call

Well I go into everyrace convinced I can take pole and the win, rain or shine. Its not very realistic but I still try. I could have had a top 6 grid slot no problem so im quite ticked that I didnt get my act together. I think I was just trying way too hard to make something happen and its not a car that enjoys it with all the aerodynamics

That's a load - if you weren't on the grass, then you must have been on the track

Had a massive massive crash in final qualifying in a really fast sweeper.

MH had a big one at Snetterton when he was a wee lad, so atleast now you have something in common. IIRC, you also have something in common with DC, so you should be getting a call from Ron anytime now.....

The clerk of the course said I was one of the farthest explorers ever into the turn 1 field.

Doughnuts, 360's and this. Can we call you "Ross the Toss"?

Seriously, congrats on establishing a relationship with AudiSport NA. It should be worth a lot and I hope you get a fulltime drive somewhere.

Looks like you had a good time, and you just need a little more practice.

Now, let's all write to Audi to tell them how mightily impressed we are at that Stonefeld boy, and how much they should give ya a contract for next year!;)

keep it cool dude, try all you can to keep it cool and finish in the top 6. Maybe boring, but at least it will guarantee you an ongoing drive for next season. Look at Kimi, he will get a Mac next year because of consistence. So, next year, he will really be able to have fun.

As you may have read I was privaledged to see the racing debut of Ross at Snetterton. i had been sent down to Birmingham on the saturday by my work and i though since I had the sunday off I would wonder over..

Firstly I would like to thank him for his generousity and friendliness shown to two people ( Myself and Comma) that he had only met in chat and on the board before. Especially as he had just met us about four mins after stuffing the car but more on that later.

Now for the Snetterton experience. We missed first practise having watched the GP in the B&B in the morning. We arrived for the second session and watched in awe as Ross attacked Russell lap after lap right on the edge and actually looking faster through than anyone else. Spectacular just doesn't describe his style enough, he was certainly attracting comments from the sages of the russell banking.

Towards the end of the session he was just a little too spectacular has he lost it at Coram and made a major rear entry hit into the tyre wall. I just caught the impact and it was a relief to see him step out and then run towards the pits.. ( though the congratulatory handshake with the marshall was quite funny. )

I met Ross just after that ( probably not the best time to say hi Ross, I'm LB :D , but hey..) and to his eternal credit he chased around the paddock for us and got us some hospitality passes. This going on while his cars suspension, rear wing and sidepod were replaced by the palmer audi team.

After a few cups of coffee we went back to the watch the support races from Russell, after a couple of saloon races ( and a championship win from Graham Wait sponsered by a local garage to me , congrats mate! ) It was the first Audi race. We couldn't see the start so I missed the first ever standing start for Ross ( which I gather was a bit too much standing ;) as he explained. ) but by 3/4 of the way round the first lap he had caught the pack. He attempted to pass Natalie Butler around the outside at Russell but lets say it didn't quite work... he ended up broadside to the track right in front of me with Miss Butler literally inches from T boning him.. a 'quick' doughnut later he was away again. From then on he picked off the stragglers and was catching Car 9 quite substatiually only to spin again out of my view , but he finished the race, unlapped despite two time consuming offs.

After the race he again took a little time to discuss with me what had happened and it was then I found out about the start and the other spin, though I had already guessed as he had dropped back from Young a fair distance on one lap. But he certainly was value for money alone.

After a couple more races Ferraris looking expensive ( save the two that collided (oops) ) and Minis looking absolutely spectacular !! three abreast into russell  He was up again. Lap one and it was looking good Warren had gone agracultural and Barazi was clouted by Harris at Russell and Ross was about 9th after a decent start. Lap 2 er no Ross. dum de dum twiddle de dee. still no Ross.. hmm finally he came out of Corum back in 14th place with only Harris and Warren behind him. ( that was obviously the turnip field..) a bit of overtaking on Butler and Tuppen and a spin for lewis ahead had him back up to 11th , however he look to be struggling handling wise in the later stages and he was passed by the recovering Warren and then by Tuppen on the last lap. However he was hardly disgraced.

Unfortunatly we had to go after that and I missed Ross after race two, ( Sorry mate, but i had to drive back to Scotland :D) but congrats on driving anyway its more than most of us armchair know it all do.

Speaking of armchair know it alls - you looked faster on the exit of Russell after the bollocking from the stewards for the four wheel specacular "how the heck did he hold that" every lap style you had before.;) ( hiding behind the net is a wonderful thing)

Anyway It was a good enjoyable meet and i hope you can make it back to entertain the fans next year.

Ross, May I ask what driving experience you had before this race? I am also curious (clueless!) as to how/where you got the car & pit crew, etc.??? I mean like, could I just call up Audi and ask for an expense account and go race these things or is there more to it? Yes, I am confused!

ciao andy,
hey mate.
Ross and I, have been to a racing track called the Bedford autodrome, which is home to the FPA series.
it is run by Jonathan Palmer.
he runs the cars, and, if you want to race, you can just pay for the whole championship, and you get everything, from transportation of the race car, to pitcrew.

ciao,
liran biderman.

p.s. if you have any questions, you can send me a PM.

That is undoubtedly the funniest race recap I have ever read, especially the part about the foray into the turnip field. Too bad most of us can't watch you race, it sounds like you are entertaining as hell win or lose
