69) Matt Davis 237 7

Score for the average contribution: 344 points; 3 points in Japan.

Jaybee takes the championship with the smallest of margins! Imagine if Mika hadn't let DC past, then tacololo would have been joint #1... Very well done by the entire top five to build such a gap from the rest of us! Personally, finishing joint 6th is the same position as last year, but naturally a lot better anyway considering that the amount of participants was five times bigger this year!

For comparison, last year's final scores ranged from 298 to 365 points and the average final score was 328.4 points, while it was 331.9 this year.

The last round was not surprisingly also the lowest scoring round of the year, but with Mika in the points everybody at least scored some points.

If you don't remember what your entries looked like, I suppose they can be looked at at the original thread from this spring, unless you for some nonsense reason have chosen to edit them...

Drivers' listings

See
http://www.atlasf1.c...&threadid=16968
for lame explanations on how the following listings are calculated.

The surprising drivers list
Final standings:

Heidfeld 118.2 %
M Schumacher 112.8 %
R Schumacher 92.5 %
Barrichello 70.9 %
Räikkönen 69.2 %
Coulthard 65.0 %
Montoya 52.5 %
de la Rosa 42.9 %
Häkkinen 35.9 %
Irvine 25.0 %
Alesi 19.4 %
Villeneuve 17.1 %
Fisichella 15.7 %
Trulli 15.3 %
Frentzen 14.0 %
Panis 12.2 %
Verstappen 7.7 %
Button 2.8 %
All other drivers 0 %

Two 100 % surprises, compared to five in 2000. I am a bit surprised to see any at all this year, given the amount of participants.

The expectations fulfillment list
Final standings:

de la Rosa 1800.0 %
Räikkönen 433.6 %
Heidfeld 390.0 %
R Schumacher 171.1 %
M Schumacher 146.2 %
Irvine 137.1 %
Montoya 136.9 %
Coulthard 109.3 %
Barrichello 108.1 %
Fisichella 78.3 %
Alesi 73.1 %
Trulli 52.9 %
Villeneuve 49.9 %
Häkkinen 47.1 %
Verstappen 43.7 %
Panis 36.3 %
Frentzen 33.4 %
Button 19.0 %
All other drivers 0 %

100 % in this list indicates that the season has gone "as expected" points-wise for a driver. Naturally, not too many expected very much from Pedro de la Rosa before the start of the season, as he didn't have a race seat by then... The Sauber team is the revelation of the year, with both drivers scoring about four times more points than expected.

How many participants each driver has surprised so far
Final standings:

Heidfeld 69
M Schumacher 69
R Schumacher 68
Räikkönen 67
de la Rosa 66
Montoya 56
Irvine 46
Barrichello 44
Coulthard 43
Fisichella 25
Alesi 23
Verstappen 13
Trulli 8
Villeneuve 4
Button 2
Frentzen 1
Panis 1
All other drivers 0

Mika Häkkinen remains the only points scoring driver who didn't surprise any participant in a positive way (in terms of points) this year. A result of around 35 would be an "average" result for a driver in this list.

That's it I guess! Thank you all for this season and welcome to next year's competition! I'll post a little bit more stats on my Atlas page within a few days.

Thanks for everything, Makarias, I am gobsmacked!!
However if Trulli was to be reinstated with his Indy points I would be just as happy with whatever points I had. We will hear next week I guess.

Hmm... Appears FIA with their legendary efficiency now has come up with a different result of the US GP... This means I'll have to recalculate the scores... I'll post it here asap.

Score for the average contribution: 346 points.
The average of the final scores is 333.4 points.

The FIA verdict on Jordan's US GP appeal made Jaybee narrowly lose the championship to MrT and tacololo! And I dropped from joint 6th to joint 8th... I love the FIA.

Belated congratulations to MrT and tacololo! And sorry Jaybee, for losing the title in this strange way... At least you can take comfort from being the only one to beat me in two consecutive years! :)

The FIA verdict only affects Irvine, Heidfeld, Alesi and Trulli in the drivers' listings; Trulli in a positive way and the other three in a negative one (just like in the WDC).

Aha! I gain a place. :)
The best thing about this competition is that you only have to think once (a painful process ;) ) and then just watch it all unfold.
Thanks Makarias

thanks for this Makarius -- well, 41st out of 69 participants it is certainly humbling after my podium in GTG (and honourable mention in GTR), but i note that fellow podium dwellers 130R did only 24th and GTG Champion Pit Babe scored with us other bottom dwellers at 54th -- it has given me second thoughts about a second career as a stock picker, though ;)
