The last couple of Quarterly reviews on the Classic Team Lotus site include comments about some evaluation activity being undertaken on 38/1 which may lead to its restoration to running order ...

Just wondered if there had been any further information regarding Lotus 38/1 now being unavailable for the Lotus Festival at Snetterton on 20th June. An appearance at Goodwood perhaps? I do hope that there will be an opportunity to see the car here in the UK before it goes back to the Henry Ford Museum.

When I saw my friend Walter Goodwin (who recently rebuilt the engine in the Clark winning 38) on Pole Day morning in Indianapolis, he'd just returned from the UK and as of that time, he believed the car was supposed to be at Goodwood.

As a matter of interest why was Esso known as Enco in the US. The stickers on the car are the same script etc and the Tiger ofcourse.
I though Esso was a world wide name then?

Enco was a marketing name for Humble Oil (later part of Exxon). In some States they could not use the Esso name. They both used the Tiger in the Tank!

A few more shots of the Bobby Johns Lotus 38. Taken within the last month. I don't care how many pictures I've taken of this car, I still have to snap a few more. I can't believe that I get to be within touching distance of this iconic car from time to time. As a seven year old seeing it for the first time in 1965, who would ever have dreamed.

It will be at Goodwood, with Jackie Stewart driving it, but it won't be at Snetterton sadly.

Thanks Andrew. I am aiming to be at Goodwood on the Saturday. Can hardly wait that long! :)

Will it be a Snetterton happily instead?

It would be nice if it was there. Anyway, Snetterton is always a happy place (except in a force 10 gale and snow heading in from the Urals)! :)
