From the FIA press release: "If this proves to be the case, the race classification would be that at the end of the 54th lap and not at the end of the 53rd lap as published."

What IS the classification after the 54th lap apart from that Fisichella was ahead?

Oh Dear. Bit of a mess.

Well done Atlas

I have been cynical in the past about your ability to break news, but this is a fantastic scoop to get

If this is true FIA ruling really sucks. If rules can be interpreted differently in such
a simple matter as this it's almost scary to think how it works (or not) when it comes to
more delicate issues.
It will be interresting to hear the reasoning behind it.

Ghostrider what are your thoughts on this?
You know other forumers will be wondering about the fisi fan Ghostrider. :D

But I like to see some more stuff and read more news before I celebrate, as I think Fisi deserved the Brazil GP win.

He very well might deserve it, I don't dispute. It's just that why the *** it took till mr. schumacher opened his mouth before anything began to happen?

But hey, I'm only 8 yrs. old, like Nikolas Garth said, and please, note this age y'all and ignore what I said in the introductories, please.

Regarding Fisichella deserving the win more than Kimi or David I am not so sure. If he is
claimed the winner of the Brazilian GP it is just as much a lucky win as it was in Kimis case.
He was in the right place at the right moment.

If I am not mistaking, the result would be:
1. Fisichella
2. Räikkönen
3. Coulthard
4. Frentzen
5. Villeneuve
6. Trulli
7. R. Schumacher
8. Da Matta

I think Alosno would still be in there, he was running ahead of Webber and collected his wheel when "lapping" him, he was only a few seconds behind Kimi and Fisico, so he should have crossed the line with them a lap earlier.

Yes but that means that at the end of lap 53 Kimi leads and at the end of lap 54 Fisi leads

In a race with so many accidents, turnovers and errors, no driver can be said to have deserved the win. Especially if you consider the full race distance was ever completed.

Fisi overtakes Kime ended lap 53 as leader, in lap 54 Fisi overtakes Kimi and Giancarlo have finished lap 54 as the leader, finishes lap 55 as leader ,

AND FINISHES THE RACE AS LEADER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulation to the FIA that they are rethinking the decision of their racestewards to give the right man the win and not the man who finishes 2nd.

Dear lord, what a mess...
If Fisichella is granted a victory I am SURE that this is not the way how he wants to earn his 1st victory.
Amateurish FIA suckers. Learn to read your stupid rulebook or change the rules so that stewards don't have to guess what is the right decision in case X. Phew!!

WooHoo!!! :D

I honestly thought I'd never see a Jordan on the podium again never mind another victory....

Congratulations Eddie, Fissichella and the Jordan team.....commiserations Kimi (just about my favourite driver at the moment) but you and McLaren will have other victorys.

And thanks Atlas for making my day and great reporting.

(only downside is I'd have really like to have seen Fissichella on the top step and the Soldiers Song being played....oh well....)

The rain-hit race was littered with crashes and incidents and ended in bizarre circumstances with Raikkonen's win. Teams were allowed to change the set-up of their cars to suit the wet conditions an hour before the race. McLaren had already been given special dispensation to change the engine in Raikkonen's car after the power unit suffered a crack during the qualifying session.

I didn't like the way the rules were overlooked in this GP anyway, so maybe Kimi would have a DNF'd if the engine change didn't occur, and after all that, 8 points for 2nd place is something to celebrate still, and his lead in championship isn't badly reduced.

True, but he did cross the finish line ahead of Kimi, so it will surely feel like a victory.

If those results are correct, the WDC standings would look like this:
1. Kimi Räikkönen, 24 (1)
2. David Coulthard 15 (1)
3. Fernando Alonso, 14
4. Giancarlo Fisichella, 10 (1)
5. Jarno Trulli, 9
6. Juan Pablo Montoya, 8
7. Rubens Barrichello, 8
8. Michael Schumacher, 8
9. Ralf Schumacher, 8
10. Heinz-Harald Frentzen, 7
11. Jacques Villeneuve, 3
12. Jenson Button, 2
13. Nick Heidfeld, 1
Mark Webber, 0

I would still give it today and maybe tomorrow, so more confirmation is revealed, like Jordan issuing a statement, but it looks like Fisi's win, but how you act on your hopes is your choice, difficult when u want to celebrate or not, but for me, I still want to see more stuff, but other people are already convinced.

What I don't understand is why Jordan didn't appeal the original reace classification. It's clear from the rules that if Fisi started lap 56, the results are based on the classification at the end of lap 54, when Fisi was in the lead. So all you have to know is whether Fisi crossed the line after getting through Webber's debris before the red flag was thrown. And who would be better placed to know this that people in the pit lane, such as the Jordan team?

Firstly - well done Bira and Atlas

Regarding the BB's influence - maybe Bira took note of a few arguments in the discussions in the other threads and made a few inquiries to the FIA and they realised they screwed up!!??? In time I think we will find out.

Regarding Fisichella winning - I dont see this as much of a problem - Im happy if he does finally get his first win - he is long overdue - but its a shame he couldnt celebrate it like he deserved to on the podium top step. Well done Fisi

As for Kimi - well i can live with him losing 2 points - atleast it doesnt hurt his championship all that much.

Wow - what an eventful start to the season!!

Maybe they were preoccupied with how Alonso and Webber were doing?

I just watched the replay again and it looks like Fisi is the winner because he passed the accident place around 15 seconds before Alonso crashed there and the race was red flagged immidiately after Alonso crashed. So it means that Fisi should cross the start/finish in 15 seconds from the accident place even if he wasn't up to full speed and start lap 56......

Exactly, if Kimi is as good as you believe, he'll bounce back, he's still got a great lead any driver would want at this stage, 8 points is alot for 2nd place, and Fisi likely won't be his championship challenger.

But for the season, it gives a spread out celebration feel, 3 different winners in 3 GPS-Equality of f1 celebration for the fans of the winners. :smoking:
